(Okay, I actually put this in the correct thread this time)

I recently bought and played through Undertale and above all else I absolutely love the soundtrack; it has slowly become one of my favorites; my favorite tracks include, but are not limited to: "Bonetrousle," "Hopes and Dreams," and "His Theme."

(Not sure why but people have been treating some parts of the soundtrack as spoilers, so I guess I'll do the same?)

After listening to it for a while, it led me to think about other soundtracks that I love, which brought me to most of the games in the Final Fantasy (highlights: "FF4 Main Theme," "FF6 Celes," and "FF7 J-E-N-O-V-A"), Suikoden II (highlights: "The Chase" and "Gothic Neclord"), Lunar: Silver Star Story (highlight: "Wind Nocturne"), Secret of Mana (highlights: "Angel's Fear," "Phantom and a Rose," "Danger!" and "The Oracle") and Chrono Trigger (highlights: "Main Theme," "Marle's Theme," "Lucca's Theme," and "To Times Far Away").

So, I was wondering what are people's favorite soundtracks and/or songs from gaming?

Bioshock and Bioshock Infinite...lets see...Everything from all the Silent Hills.
Mass Effect has several memorable soundtracks. Hell, even the Hexen soundtrack makes me nostalgic.

Oh man, there's so much. I love video game music. I couldn't possibly list all of the ones that I adore. But I've been listening to Darksiders 2 OST the last couple of days. Jesper Kyd is a genius.

After typing my response, I notice that no one else has provided samples. Unsure if I'm not supposed to (Don't come into the gaming forum often) but to hell with it.

Borderlands get a mention because just about all of them have a good 'Theme.'

Borderlands - Ain't No Rest for the Wicked - Cage the Elephant
This song just fit the game so well - A song about people just in it for the money, no personal issues here. Just wicked people doing wicked things to make a living.

Borderlands 2 - Doomsday (Wub Wub) - Nero
The utter ridiculousness of the Dub Step beat mixed very well with the overall theme over Borderlands, which is ridiculousness. And being upbeat. And of overplaying EVERYTHING. Truly a theme choice to be admired.

Borderlands 2 - Short Change Hero - The Heavy
Another great 'No Hero' song, it reiterates that you are not the hero here and the sadness of the song tell you you are most definitely not in a good position to be one anyway.

Borderlands The Pre-Sequel - What Makes a Good Man - The Heavy
Essentially Handsome Jacks theme song, and by extension you, his minions. What makes a good man? His strength, his drive, his conviction? If these things are true, then is Jack one?

At best for last...

Borderlands The Pre-Sequel: Claptastic Voyage - Mainframe - Gearbox Software (Justin Mullins, Katy McSnatch)
It's just... well, listen to it. In multiple languages.

Necrodancer has a pretty good sound track, but it gets mentioned more because of the cover art.

As for best... there's a lot of good soundtracks in modern games. But the soundtracks I always come back to are from...

Red Wings Theme
Boss Theme
Random Battle Theme

And...

Probably Final Fantasy 4 more then 6.

I always love topics like this.

Okay I'll give you my top 10.

Music created by the great Stewart Copeland

One of my favorite soundtracks to listen to in the fall. Everything about it just says red and yellow leaves and pumpkins to me

The soundtrack that was not surpassed by any other fighting game soundtrack until its predecessor two decades later.

And the absolute best. Joy turned into music!

What a shame that this game is so unappreciated..

Anything made by Koei, most stuff from Platinum, the Godhand soundtrack, the tenchu soundtracks, the Armored Core soundtracks, Megaman stuff, Track and Field II, Anarchy Reigns/Max Anarchy, hell, I've been gaming for ages, so I have a long list if I put my mind to it.

Favorite gaming sountracks? Somebody stop me! Okay okay, I'll just limit myself to my number 1 picks from each soundtrack...

Jet Set Radio has an amazing soundtrack:

And the we can't forget the always excellent soundtracks of the Katamari franchise:

The Bastion soundtrack is great too:

The fusion of traditional Japanese with modern electronic that the Ganbare Goemon series does is always excellent:

And where would a great gaming music thread be without something from Final Fantasy?

The music in Conker's Bad Fur Day was a whole lot of (scatological) fun:

Some awesome J-pop in Persona 4's soundtrack:

Considering Eternal Sonata is themed around music, you'd better beleve it has a great soundtrack!

Some awesome jazzy tunes in Telltale's episodic Sam & Max games!

Seiken Densetsu 3 really made excellent use of the SNES' capabilities, just listen to this:

No list of awesome game music is complete without some Guilty Gear!

The Mega Drive may not have had the best sound processor, but Sonic 3's Ice Cap Zone is amazing:

The Mass Effect series, Skyrim, Persona 3 & 4, Metal Gear Rising, Transistor, Bloodborne and Deus Ex all have amazing soundtracks. That said, I'm a sucker for the licensed music used in the Grand Theft Auto series and Saints Row IV.

For me, the 2 soundtracks that I liked enough to actually buy were the following:

Deus Ex: Human Revolution

and

Vagrant Story

Well, me from 2014 could explain my answer for me...

Basically, any soundtrack from the Tales series becomes one of my favorites, with Symphonia, Abyss, Vesperia, and Xillia taking the top spot of my usual go-to in that department...

Other than that, all the Persona soundtracks released after Persona 3 are basically instant-buys alongside the Tales series soundtracks and the Kingdom Hearts soundtracks...

If I had to choose one that I like the music more than the games themselves (for some reason), that honor goes to the DJ Max Portable original soundtrack... (Also, I refuse to play the "international version" of that game, but that's another story in and of itself at this point...)
Thanks, me...

Other than that... well... I'll just let past 2015 me take over from here...

Still gonna have to give it my favorite game series Kingdom Hearts... I mean...
Basically, the entire series's original soundtrack is one of my favorite pieces of videogame music, broken into various sections that evoke different emotions depending on the situation in general...
FPLOON said:
First off, a collection of similar melodies spanded across multiple games of the same series:
And now for some full OSTs:
Yep... I think I covered my favorites that haven't already been covered in some way, shape or form...
Thanks again, me...
