So, what are some of your favorite graphic novels, I know some of mine are Wanted by Mark Millar and J.G Jones, Watchmen and V for Vendetta by Alan Moore, Y: The Last Man by Brian Vaughn and Pia Gurerra, and Batman: The Long Halloween

Watchmen, The Dark Knight Returns, The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen volume 2 and The Ultimates

If you also taking comic series, The Sandman (favourite comicbook series of all time), Swamp Thing (the Alan Moore issues), Ultimate Spiderman and Hellblazer

I'm also reading V for Vendetta as I type this and I'm loving it so far.

The Dark Knight Returns & The Dark Knight Strikes Back - Frank Miller
The New Frontier - Darwyn Cooke
The Killing Joke - Alan Moore
Nick Fury Vs SHIELD - forget the Author
Silver Surfer Judgement Day - Stan Lee (it's a nice hardcover with one panel per page and 1 2-page panel, that is pure awesome)
Batman The Cult - Jim Starlin
V for Vendetta - Alan Moore

EDIT: found the name of the Silver Surfer graphic novel

Maus by Art Spiegelman.
QFT. Although it's incredibly depressing.

Also, do you mean stand-alone graphic novels, or you mean 'graphic novel' as in a longer-form comic book? As a previous poster mentioned, The Sandman is really a comic-book series, but they gathered the various story-arcs into collections such as "A Game of You", "Seasons of Mist", "Brief Lives", which- while more factually being merely a collection, really do serve as graphic novels by the second definition above.

Well being the graphic novel newb I am, I'm going to say Watchmen, as it's the only one I've read that I truly loved.

Transmetropolitan by Warren Ellis is a wonderfully twisted series.
The Goon by Eric Powell
V for Vendetta, Watchmen, League of Extroardinary Gentlemen by Alan Moore
And the usual superheroes as well.
Anybody who loves dark humor and doesn't mind tons of vulgarity NEEDS to check out the Transmet. books. They are completely worth any trouble you encounter while trying to obtain them.

EDIT:
Sin City, 300, and both Batman futures by Frank Miller.
BLAME! by Tsutomi Nihei is pretty interesting.

and the usual suspects..Watchmen, V4V, Sin City, Give Me Liberty..etc..

Y: The Last Man, and Runaways.
I wouldn't really call Runaways a graphic novel, but I still love it too. Haven't read anything after the third or fourth issue in the third season (is that the right term?).

Watchmen and V are good, and I'm currently reading Wanted then plan to read Y. Here's hoping they're good too.

Absolutely stunning that no one has mentioned The Crow by James O'Barr, one of, if not THE, finest graphic novels ever created. Go read it now, for the good of your souls!

Y: The Last Man is awesome, you'll love it. I'm almost finished with it myself.

Gantz, though it's incredibly violent and gory so probably not for everyone. I'm also a big fan of Highschool of the Dead, though releases are very sporadic.

The only graphic novel I've actually read is Watchmen, so I'll go with that.
