Dynasty Warriors and God of War come to mind, as do the toned-down Lego Games (which were all awesome and fun).

Hey on another note guys and gals, favorite Devil May Cry game?

For me it's gotta be 3 Vergil kicked ass (plus the Inferno reference pleased me a great deal :)

God of War. I hate Dante since i he's an effeminate whiny pretty boy and Ninja Gaiden is only good when i'm feeling masochistic.

...Dante a whiny pretty boy? Are you sure you're not confusing him with Nero?

OT: Devil May Cry and Ninja Gaiden are by far my favourite hack and slash series.

God of War, followed by Bayonetta and Diablo.
The release of Diablo 3 may change the ordering. Bayonetta sits in second place because I find that Kratos is a much better character for the type of game. And, God of War is much more bloody.

God of War get's my vote. It was a great and epic game. I don't usally like those types of games, but God of War was one of the only exceptions.

Ninja Gaiden 1&2
it is more challenging than other games of this genre. Plus, the second one was deliciously gory and awesome. The executions are just so cool

not everyone would consider kingdom hearts a hack and slash game, but with my playing style i found myself doing a lot of it, and it was an awesome game.

My favorite's DMC3, though DMC4 is a veryyy close second. I absolutely love Nero. x3

Um...for my favorite, easily Drakengard. I guess it's kind of negotiable whether or not it's actually "hack and slash" but I'd say it qualifies.

The Sands of Time trilogy--enough hack-and-slash to keep my violent side interested, but I also enjoy the runny-jump-climby element as well as the intriguing puzzles.
