Self explanitory really. Who is your favorite Halo character(s), from any of the games or books(Combat Evolved through Halo Wars), and give your reasoning behind it as well. I would put a poll but there are just too many characters. If you do not play Halo or have a negative opinion of the series than dont answer. Im not going to manage a flame war, period.
A list of characters can be found here. [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Halo_characters]

1) My first choice is Prof. Ellen Anders from Halo Wars. She wasnt the typical female video game character. She wasnt portrayed as a sex object, or a bimbo. Yes she was captured, but she was also a strong, smart, and independent female lead, unlike most modern games.

2) My second choice would be the Arbiter. Although he plays second fiddle to the Master Cheif, is also a strong, well developed character, with his own complex back story. I enjoyed seeing the insight into Covenant life in Halo 2.

Alright, I suppose that counts, but I was looking for a character from the franchise, not from Machinima. Do you have a favorite not spawned from Red vs. Blue?

Well, most Halo 'fans' nowadays probably dont know who the hell I am talking about, but Captain Keyes is definatly one of my favorite. No, not Miranda, but her father.
(to explain, most people who say they are Halo fans are either multiplayer only people or never played the first thus would not be familiar with this Halo 1 only character)

I'd agree, but mainly because of his role in the novels. Anyone else on this thread apart from me and Kiutu ever heard of Sigma Octanus IV? That's where it's at, baby! Oh yeah!

Ahem. Anyway, yeah, Jacob Keyes. Also, probably the Arbiter (underrated, yet as seen in Halo: The Cole Protocol he has such an intersting backstory) and Cortana (she's smart, sassy and a pseudo-naked holographic hot chick. What's not to like? Ahem.).

Keyes was a close third to the Arbiter for me. Not much about his character is portrayed in the games, but in the books he is an awesome Captain.

The Arbiter, no question. He was cool as an example of a good noble alien. So tough, so noble, so valiant. A true hero and people like him even though he's not a human. He is also one of the characters who has a real and very clear personality change over the course of the story. Starting out as a loyalist who tries to defend himself, then becoming a shadow of a creature overwhelmed by failure, then a slightly more deluded not understand the truth that then spread to questioning, then seeing the bad side of the covenant and completely loosing his loyalty and after that he was driven by revenge.
This is a rare thing in games, especially FPS's.

Also of course Masterchief and Cortana obviously, though they stay roughly the same way throughout the series, both however still have that charming chemistry between them.

Captain Keyes was cool. Shame he died.

Really weird how he was engulfed by the flood.

It would be the Arbitor, but someone who likes the Arbitor REEEAALLLLY pissed me off yesterday, so I'm unfairly biased against "Shirley".

I'll go with your NPC partners. Driving off cliffs, waiting until after you kill everything to land, they piss me off so much I have to respect them for having that power over me.

The Arbiter. End of discussion. Perhaps it's because I played the Halo games so late (I haven't even finished the first Halo yet, but that's 'cause I'm up to the Library and I know it's gonna suck. But I did beat Halo 2), but I don't get all the nerd rage with regard to the Arbiter's introduction as a second playable character. I mean, he's no Raiden, not by a long shot.

I may be shot for saying this, but I think I like him more than Master Chief. His story is a lot better developed in the game.

I also like the leader of the Brutes from Halo 2. I thought that was a very clever boss fight. And I know some people didn't like the cliffhanger ending from Halo 2, but the Arbiter's story actually had some resolution. And seeing as he was the only character I gave a fig about...

Dr. Halsey

The real Cortana. Of course, we've gotta all ignore the fact that she kidnapped dosens of children in the name of science...

I dont think she really had a choice in the matter. Oh well she gave us the Master Chief and the Spartans, who saved thousands of lives, so I guess technically that makes up for it.

The nameless marines who die at the start of the first game. And the female pilot.
True Terran heroes. *sniff*

Sgt. Johnson, Token Black Guy.

The Arbiter was my least favorite. He ruined the second game with that religious backstory crap. I want to play as the Chief, not side with the friggen Elites.
