So, who would be your favorite fictional character with a severe handicap that still manages to destroy opponents?

For me, it's the obvious one.

Seriously, you can't not like Toph.

And then, there's my honorable mention.

Obviously, not all posts need to feature a blind person. Everyone from Oracle to Nemo is welcome.

The only mortal to hold a Silmaril. Sent to return with the gem in his hand in order to win the hand of Luthien. And, when he returned, he presented his bloody stump, because the gem was in his hand... Which was currently in the great wolf Carcharoth's stomach.

As soon as I saw the thread title, I thought "I'm going to be ninja'd, aren't I?"

Well Bentley from the Sly Cooper series is another, though he'd only count post Sly 2. Bonus points for actually becoming stronger after he lost the use of his legs via building himself a wheelchair.

Oracle. She's awesome. Read Gail Simone's Birds of Prey run and you'll agree.

I'm calling it a four-way tie out of the list there: Makoto Shishio (Rurouni Kenshin), Zatoichi the blind samurai (Zatoichi films), 80-year-old Bruce Wayne (Batman Beyond), and Teddy Roosevelt (Kickass President).

Shishio and Zatoichi win for being extremely-skilled samurai would beat the shit out of everyone despite having seriously-handicapping conditions. Shishio himself cannot fight for more than fifteen minutes thanks to being burned alive in a manner which prevents him from letting off most of his body heat. Anything more than fifteen minutes of heavy exertion will kill. Fortunately, he hasn't needed it. Zatoichi, of course, is blind. Everything he does cannot be done visually at all. He gets by through what he hears, smells, and can touch. So far as I know, nobody has touched HIM, so it must work out very well.

Bruce Wayne is, of course, the retired Batman, still as capable mentally as he always was. Though he's old and has a heart condition, no street thug is a match for him. He's still the brains of the operation and can kick a fair amount of ass. The only problem is whether or not he can stand the strain. As for Teddy, well...he was born an ill child, his body weak and his eyesight requiring glasses. AND YET, this is the man that kicked weakness on his ass as he worked to overcome his handicaps to land himself first into the military with some successful and violent charges, and then become President Badass. (My guess is that we could see a movie along the lines of Teddy Roosevelt: Werewolf Hunter, and it would WORK.)

Honorable mention to Bruce Lee, who - during his life, training, and career - sustained an injury that should have put him out of action permanently. Instead, he worked even harder and redoubled his efforts to become even stronger than before.

No one in their right mind would call Guts from Berserk handicapped, but still, he lost his eye and cut off his own arm to save the woman he loved.

Jeff "Joker" Moreau, from the Mass Effect trilogy. Anybody who has played the games understands this pick. Best known (human) pilot in the galaxy, and has been known to shoot at stuff with an assault rifle despite having bones that could break from the recoil.

Question: Do cybernetic augmentations that exceed what they replace count? Like, Adam Jensen from Deux Ex: Human Revolution, who had both his arms and legs amputated, but has superior replacements.
Pretty sure that Adam should fall into the Handi-capable category, because, as you say, he has had all his amputations fixed and they have only increased his abilities.

Jaime Lannister from about halfway into Storm of Swords and onwards for obvious reasons.

I was already ninja'd on Toph and Guts , so I can't really think of anyone else for now.

I can't believe Big Boss hasn't been mentioned yet. The guy had his eye shot out and yet he still saves the world multiple times.

Kudos to Toph, Joker and Bentley mentions, though; they are pretty awesome.

EDIT: Ack, and Zaeed Massani too for also having one eye.

Whelp, you hit a few of mine. Shishio and Zatoichi were what I thought of coming into this thread. But Bruce from Batman Beyond and Teddy Roosevelt are also great choices.

Also, I remember seeing a movie where Zatoichi does get hit in the final fight. But this was after fighting dozens of men, defeating an entire organization, which I think was Yakuza, and basically saving the day. His opponent, a government agent who wanted to kill the person he saved due to his misdeeds working with the criminals, was very respectful. He quietly admitted defeat and walked off with a small trail of blood, likely to succumb to his wounds. I really should try to find more of those movies.

Obviously this guy:

MIND QUAD!

Other than that, Daredevil is the obvious choice, surely? Beats the crap out of thugs despite being blind and not having any kind of abilities that he didn't develop himself. Pretty badass.

Now, League of Legends is hardly the best at introducing great characters, but I always thought that Jericho Swain, Master Swagtician (and Grand General of Noxus) was the pimpingest badass sonofagun to ever lean heavily on a cane.

Such a boss.

Also Kreia from KOTOR II because obviously.

Really? Nobody has said Dr. Gregory House yet? Well there, I said it. Majority of muscle mass in one leg gone due to an infarction (necrosis of tissue due to lack of oxygen from a blood clot), constant pain buffered by a severe opiate addiction. Still one of, if not the best diagnostician in the world of the show.

Would Ashley J. Williams count? The man cut off his own demon-possessed hand and replaced it with a freaking chainsaw for crying out loud!

Also, Duster from Mother 3. The guy might have a leg injury that causes him to limp, but he can still kick ass with the best of them.

Totally forgot about him, but totally agree.

Since I'm watching FMA: brotherhood again, The elric brothers and really anyone who does the whole human transmutation thing, since it results in becoming handicapped.
