I'd been meaning to play Psychonauts ever since it first came out, but I never got around to it. Since I've started, I've done nothing but wish I'd picked it up sooner; I know it's (as Yahtzee puts it) a polarizing game, but I happen to think it's awesome.

Has there ever been a game that you loved that you didn't play until way after its release?

Beyond Good and Evil. SO good.
Is it worth $10 from Amazon, in your opinion?
Yes. I personally despise it, but who would walk by a game that affordable?

DMC4. I know it isn't small time or anything, but as soon as it came out, I completely forgot about it.

Red faction 2. Its looked like it came out about three years before I got my hands on it, and I still regard it as one of my most cherished gaming experiences ever.

Beyond Good and Evil.
Got it on that Steam Ubisoft deal with four games for ten bucks. Far Cry and IL-2 Sturmovik were what I was really after, and BG&E along with Dark Messiah Might and Magic came as afterthoughts. But as it turns out, BG&E was the only game I enjoyed out of the four (Consider that it's 2009, and the others didn't age quite as well. Except Dark Messiah already wasn't that great of a game.)

Half Life 2. I had a terrible computer when the game came out, and didn't get around to buying it until I heard that the Orange Box was going to have it packaged-in as part of the deal (along with Episode 1 and 2). Really regretted it for all the jokes and references that suddenly made so much more sense by the time I was done beating it.

Edit: On that note, if we count finally beating games as "late-discovered", I also hadn't beaten Half Life 1 until after I was done with Episode 2. Got close on a number of play-throughs, but never quite got there.

Caesar III. I played the demo for years before I finally stumbled upon it in a video game retailer. Best day of my life.

That game took hours of my life. I enjoyed every minute.

OT: I didn't get Rygar: the Legendary Adventure until late after its arrival and though nowadays it seems like a poor man's GOW, it actually distinguishes itself. Oh, and it was released years before Kratos first snarled his way onto a television screen. Another would be Crackdown, one hell of a game that was shamefully disregarded once the Halo Beta ended. Condemned was one I tried just this time last year and I am so glad I played it at all with its wonderful story, great gameplay, and tense atmosphere, now if only I could forget the second "game" if you could call it that. Galaga, but it whooped my ass hard. Alien Hominid, I got the downloadable Live version and am still astonished that I beat it (albeit on easy but still) and I got that AFTER I beat Castle Crashers. Finally the game that I played years after release and the one that I got my avatar from, Jet Force Gemini. If any employee of Rare or Microsoft is watching, I would GLADLY bear any burden (even children despite my limitations as a male) to see it either a) released on the Live Arcade b) Remade properly or c) a fullblown sequel is made.

Orange Box, I just got it and was always interested in Half-Life. I don't really understand why I didn't buy it earlier. I got it for $20 brand new! Fantastic!

Shadow of the Colossus. I only played it two years ago. After I got my Wii but before my 360 I went out to gamestop to get a game. Surprise, surprise the Wii had nothing good out. That's when I came across SOTC for 12 bucks. Always heard good things so I picked it up...then never put it down until I beat it.

Also, I bought Super Mario Sunshine not long after it came out, but I put it down and didn't end up finally beating it until just last year. Guhhh, six years...
