A few Billy Bragg ones:
I was twenty one years when I wrote this song
I'm twenty two now, but I won't be for long
People ask when will you grow up to be a man
But all the girls I loved at school
are already pushing prams

I loved you then as I love you still
Tho I put you on a pedestal,
They put you on the pill
I don't feel bad about letting you go
I just feel sad about letting you know

I don't want to change the world
I'm not looking for a new England
I'm just looking for another girl
I don't want to change the world
I'm not looking for a new England
I'm just looking for another girl

I loved the words you wrote to me
But that was bloody yesterday
I can't survive on what you send
Every time you need a friend

I saw two shooting stars last night
I wished on them but they were only satellites
Is it wrong to wish on space hardware
I wish, I wish, I wish you'd care

I don't want to change the world
I'm not looking for a new England
I'm just looking for another girl
(Looking for another girl)
(Looking for another girl)
(Looking for another gi-rl)
Up in the morning and out to school
Mother says there'll be no work next year
Qualifications once the Golden Rule
Are now just pieces of paper

Just because you're better than me
Doesn't mean I'm lazy
Just because you're going forwards
Doesn't mean I'm going backwards

If you look the part you'll get the job
In last year's trousers and your old school shoes
The truth is son, it's a buyer's market
They can afford to pick and choose

Just because you're better than me
Doesn't mean I'm lazy
Just because I dress like this
Doesn't mean I'm a communist

The factories are closing and the army's full -
I don't know what I'm going to do
But I've come to see in the Land of the Free
There's only a future for the Chosen Few

Just because you're better than me
Doesn't mean I'm lazy
Just because you're going forwards
Doesn't mean I'm going backwards

At twenty one you're on top of the scrapheap
At sixteen you were top of the class
All they taught you at school
Was how to be a good worker
The system has failed you, don't fail yourself

Just because you're better than me
Doesn't mean I'm lazy
Just because you're going forwards
Doesn't mean I'm going backwards
How can you pick favourite lines from lyrics that brilliant? Although Billy Bragg also wrote my leat favourite line in a song; From Richard,
"How can I go on,
When every alpha particle hides a neon nucleus?"
It's a Helium nucleus damn it! It makes me cringe every time I hear it..

either
"And now my bitter hands
Cradle broken glass
of what was everything"
from Pearl Jam's Black
or
"Don't come Closer or I'll have to go
Holding me like gravity are places that pull
if ever there was someone to keep me at home
it would be you"
from Eddie Vedder's Guaranteed

"Laughter, Laughter,
All I hear and see is Laughter,
Laughter, Laughter
Laughing at my cries!"

Fucking metal.
Just call my name, 'cause I'll hear you scream
Master
Master

Love that song as well.
Master of puppets, I'm pulling your strings,
Twisting your mind and smashing your dreams,
Blinded by me you can't feel a thing,
Just call my name cos I'll hear you scream.

Ditto. Although I think the chorus of the unforgiven III is my favourite lyric

The only line that comes do my head now is;

Climactic degradation, rapture in blood achieved
suffocate them rip them rape
them make them fucking scream!
Orgasmic mutilation on terror I do feed
annihilate this bastard race I'll make them bleed for
me!

How lovely.

From "Pulled under at 2000 metres a second " by Anathema, one of my favourite songs ever.

Shadows are forming take heed of the warnings
Creeping around at four in the morning
Lie to myself start a brand new beginning
But I'm losing myself in this fear of living

So satisfying to shout along with! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gOPBt0t6SSg

Let´s go with these two, for now:

Lifetimes spent on the streets of a city
Make us the people we are
Switchblade stings in one tenth of a moment
Better get back to the car

and

A lonesome soul
In an old black coat
A lonesome road
What a way to go

Chasing down
The strings to hold
In an old black coat
A lonesome soul

"I want loads of clothes, and fuckloads of diamonds,
I hear people die when they're trying to find them"

"I'll take all my clothes off, and it will be shameless,
'cos everyone knows, that's how you get famous"

"Forget about guns, forget ammunition,
'cos I'm killin' 'em all, on my own little mission"

-Lily Allen's "The Fear", there's probably a bit more descriptive gold in there as well

We break our enemies with fear
And we've seen how the tears come around
We built our confidence on wasteland
We've seen how the walls come down

Life Burns!

A man dies like a butterfly
Life burns from the touch of the reaper
All things must pass
One love is a crooked lie
The world lies in the hands of evil
And we pray it would last

Life Burns!

Dang, four pages in and only three mentions of Jizz in my pants?

Damn that's sad...
(well maybe it's more sad to consider it song from which a favourite line can be had, but me and my mates find it hilarious)

In all seriousness though.

Coheed and Cambria - Feathers
I don't knwo any specific lines, but when it hits 2 minutes and 30 seconds in, I just can't help but love it.

I heard that song on the radio ages ago, and I must say I agree with your choice. For a pop song, it has a great choice of lyrics.

For me, I would choose :

Come all you loyal unionists, wherever you may be,
I hope you'll pay attention and listen unto me;
For well you know the blood and woe, the misery, the toil
It took to down secession on Virginia's bloody soil.

When our good old flag, the Stars and Stripes, from Sumter's walls was hurled,
And high o'erhead on the forwardest walls the Rebels their flag unfurled,
It aroused each loyal northern man and caused his blood to boil
For to see that flag?Secession's rag?float o'er Virginia's soil.

Then from the hills and mountain tops there came that wild alarm;
Rise up! ye gallant sons of North, our country calls to arms.
Come from the plains o'er hill and dale, ye hardy sons of toil,
For our flag is trampled in the dust on Virginia's bloody soil.

And thousands left their native homes, some never to return,
And many's the wife and family dear were left behind to mourn.
There was one who went among them who from danger would ne'er recoil;
Now his bones lie bleaching on the fields of Virginia's bloody soil.

When on the field of battle, he never was afraid.
When cannons loud would rattle, he stood there undismayed.
When bullets rained around him, he stood there with a smile,
Saying, "We'll conquer, boys, or leave our bones on Virginia's bloody soil."

In the great fight of the Wilderness, where many's the brave man fell,
He boldly led his comrades on through Rebel shot and shell;
The wounded 'round they strewed the ground; the dead lay heaped in piled
The comrades weltered in their blood on Virginia's bloody soil.

The Rebels fought like fury, or tigers drove to bay.
They knew full well, if the truth they'd tell, they could not win the day.
It was hand to hand they fought 'em. The struggle was fierce and wild,
Till a bullet pierced our captain's brain, on Virginia's bloody soil.

But above that din of battle, what was that dreadful cry?
The woods are all afire, where our dead and wounded lie.
The sight to behold next morning would make the stoutest heart recoil,
To see the charred remains of thousands on Virginia's bloody soil.

And now our hero's sleeping with thousands of the brave.
No marble slab does mark the place that shows where he was laid.
He died to save our Union; he's free of care and toil.
Thank God! The Stars and Stripes still wave above Virginia's soil!

and the line 'When there's nothing left to feed 'em with; its freedom or it's Death!' from the song Let Them Eat War by Bad Religion. I had a few lines of The Clash's songs that were memorable but they've slipped my mind.

'The chains of guilt,
Are in the past,
They no longer have a hold.. On me.
Dead bury their dead~
'
- Arch Enemy, 'Dead Bury Their Dead'

Will edit and update in a minute, this goddamn cat is driving me nuts.

'Now, as the lights go down
Deeper now it seems than long before,
There are no noises here
Just a silence gone bad,
Something I will never hide
This urging need to..

Invite the darkside in,
Invite the darkside,
Invite the darkside in,
Invite the darkside,

In, in, in!

Into my haven..

"we do what we must because we can
for the good of all of us except for the ones who are dead
but there's no sense crying over every mistake
you just keep on trying until you run out of cake
and the science gets done and you make a neat gun
for the people who are still alive"

I hope most people know where this is from.

a line from "in the shadow of our pale companion by Agalloch

"I walked down to a river and sat in reflection of what had to be done
An offering of crimson flowed into the water below
A wound of spirit from which it floated and faded away

. . .like every hope I've ever had. . .
. . .like every dream I've ever known. . .
It washed away in a tide of longing, a longing for a better world
From my will, my throat, to the river, and into the sea. . .
. . .wash away. . .
. . .fade away. . ."

i love agalloch so much, you don't so much hear them as you feel what they write, with every instrument
