MGS1, easily. I've tried 2 and 3 a few times but never been able to get into them, but MGS1 drew me in immediately.

MGS: Twin Snakes

All the awesomeness of the MGS2 engine, with none of the whiny Raiden crap.

My favorite is probably Twin Snakes, because MGS1 is probably the most interesting in the series.

However, I tend to play MGS3 the most. Messing with camo, and the combat, easily make it the most fun to play >.>

MGS3 is the most fun to play and has the best ending imo. If I were stuck on an island and I had to take one of the mgs games, it would probably be 3. That said, MGS2 is my favorite. The plot is fantastic. MGS1 and twin snakes are kinda meh to me. I like playing as solid and I like shadow moses as a setting; but, I really don't like too many of the bosses. I am one of the few people who think that psycho mantis is a shit boss (I hate having to get out of my chair to switch ports).

I can't really pick one game as my favorite since there's parts from all four games that I like. MGS 1 has my favorite plot, MGS 2 has my favorite engine, MGS 3 has my favorite bosses (even if The Pain and The Fear are too over the top to take seriously, The End and The Sorrow easily make up for it) and MGS 4 has my favorite cinematic set pieces (Rex vs Ray, crawling through the microwave, old man fight final boss)

So really its easier to say that all together they form one of my favorite video game series overall.

MGS2, mostly for the "WTF is going on" moment at the end.
Oh come on, that ending was simple. First the commander was a computer, then the woman's superpowers were actually fancy magnets, then she really did have superpowers, then you have a sword fight on a roof. What's not to get?

OT: Yeah, I have to go with Metal Gear Solid 2. I haven't actually played the later games, but I really enjoyed the first two even when I had no idea what was happening, and the second game just had much more content than the first.

Screw MGS. The original Metal Gear on the NES is where it's at! >.>

I've only played 1 and 3, but watched a friend play 2. My favorite MGS is 3. The need to eat was interesting, as was the ability to treat your wounds. During the fight with The Fear, I healed the arrow wounds so that they would be considered fully healed with the arrows still in me. I was a pincushion afterwords. Sneaking up on The End was fun, too. The ending also made me cry manly tears.

I'd have to go with MGS2, probably just because it was the 1st one i played as younglin....oh nostalgia you. I rented it for the weekend and was just HOOKED! all of the secret society references, the part with Hal and E.E's parrot, that snazzy jazz track that played for fortune, the swimming section (surprisingly it actually added a nice touch, and was just the right length) and of course all the fuckery at the end.

was just a feast for the imagination.

was just disappointed when i played snake tales after.

I cant decide they are just so Awesome
its either 1, 3 or peace walker they are all classics and define the consoles they are on.
Not to say 2, portable ops and 4 are not good, 4 is amazing and a nice plot finisher with two being ok but better than average. portable ops was also good.

The HD collection is amazing btw you should all get it.

Hm why didnt you just make a poll?

Mines probably MGS4 though because it's just so pretty, has the best controls, and some amazing set pieces.

Then i can't decide between 2 and 3(Both HD collection). In 2 it just had such a wack story in the end and i loved playing as jack since he was so acrobatic. Yet 3 had some great gameplay too and i loved the boss and big boss.

My favorite would probably be MGS3 Snake Eater/Subsistence. IMO it had the second best gameplay mechanics and the best story in the Metal Gear Solid series.

Coming in close second is MGS4. For me it had by far the best gameplay mechanics and the third best story (1st MGS3 and 2nd MGS). While some elements of the story could have been handled better I will still give credit to Kojima for crafting what I thought was a satisfying conclusion to the Solid Snake Saga.

Metal Gear Solid 1 is the best in the entire series. The story was the best, and I really, really cared about Snake, and Octocon, and Meryl. Perhaps seeing how it was the first introduction into the MGS world (not counting Metal Gear for the old systems of course) it has a special place in my Gamer heart. But still, the plot, the way it unfolded. There was nothing like it at the time.

My favorite is Peace Walker. It was my first Metal Gear.

The base management sytem was great and the ability to build your own Metal Gear was pretty cool, too. The coolest part about the game is that it all fit on one PSP disc. Pretty amazing.

It's followed closely by Metal Gear Solid 3: Peace Walker.

MGS3 is my favourite! I love the camo system, and the jungle setting is a nice touch...

Also, probably the best bosses in Video Game history!! My favourite is The End, due to the fact you can make him die of old age (ingenious) and you can catch and eat his parrot... That is just legendary!

I haven't played the 4th though, but from what I hear, I am not missing out! Not worth buying a PS3 for!

It's a battle between PeaceWalker and MGS3 for sure. 3 defined the sneaking if you ask me, but PeaceWalker's cut-scenes, base management, game-play, and of course... Heavens Divide (My favourite song in the world) just made it so amazing to play. Fighting stuff from Monster Hunter was a really nice touch too :3

Considering that I've only played MGS2 and 4, I'll go with MGS2 as my favorite. I fucking hate Raiden, but I didn't fancy MGS4 much. Was pretty much just a long movie. >.<

Just got the MGS HD Collection yesterday though! Playing through MGS2 again, after like 10 years, at the moment.

Everyone always says 3, but for me it's definitely 1. It was cinematic, but not so cinematic that it wasn't a game (looking at you, MGS4). Plus the almost grid-like nature of the game made it feel just right. Then of course there was VR Special missions, which I'll count as MGS1 since it was basically a map pack.
