Of course i have to agree with Darth Vader, The Joker (Heath Ledger's, although Jack Nicholson is pretty good too) and Hans Gruber.

To add something new... well none of them are really villains... more anti-heroes i guess. They do bad stuff though, so i think it qualifies. But yeah Tyler Durden (Fight Club), Jules Winnfield (Pulp Fiction) and Travis Bickle (Taxi Driver) are 3 of my favourite film characters just in general.

EDIT: I can't believe i forgot Hannibal Lecter (Silence of the Lambs etc.) and Norman Bates (Psycho).

Yep Hans Gruber "WHERE ARE MY DETONATORS!!" Althought the Joker from Dark Knight is a very close second.

Gary Oldman as Stansfield in Leon.
Colonel Hans Landa.
Frank Booth from David Lynch's Blue Velvet.

All said before but I just couldn't think of any other 3 so cold.
Stansfield has absolutely no remorse whatsoever, there is no calculation in any of his actions just pure insanity and menace, a sadistic nut-job who is feared by his lackies. Plus he's a cop so it's even worse.

Hans is a bit more of a human villian, last scene in film shows his true colours but throughout the rest he is just so cold and calm, casting an air of dominance over anyone he talks to, the restaraunt scene is terrifying and all he's doing is eating stroodle.

And SonicKoala nailed everything I could say about Frank Booth, intricately evil.

Either agent Smith or *looks shiftily at avatar* Darth Maul.

This would be the most awesome hero of all time:

That man was simply.... evil. :D
But you forget most Disney characters are evil in some way.
On topic: Darth Vader or The Joker you know the one.

Heath Ledger's Joker (duh)
Agreed. OT: the psycho from...uh...I can't think of the movie...it's by Stephen King and is about an obsessed fan. Speaking of obsessed fans, Stan from Eminem's music isn't that nice either. I don't think they meant for him to seem evil but the screaming and the sound of the car wrecking always give me chills. Any of the Serial Killers from Condemned. And, last but certainly not least Pyramid Head from Silent Hill

Edit: I reread the OP after typing this and yeah, I realize I didn't keep it to just movie villains...so...yeah, I overacheived once again. In my defense, Pyramid Head was in the movie...also, that guy from The Hitcher was pretty bad@$$.

Jean-Baptiste Emanuel Zorg(Gary Oldman) from The Fifth Element. He is in my opinion the best villain ever created, if you haven't seen that movie yet do yourself a favor and go watch it now!

Either Ozymandias from watchmen because
He was the good guy all along
or Evil Ash from army of darkness, what's cooler than Bruce Campbell? answer: NOTHING,
so they just had to give him an evil twin to make it a fair fight
