You've probably all experienced this. You fall in love with a movie or game, but you can't brag on it because everyone else hates it. What's your game/movie?

Mine? Cars. I love the movie Cars. One of the main reasons is because it's the only sports movie I've ever seen where the good guy lost in the end, and was okay with that. And yea, I thought Mater was funny.

I thought Pirates of the Caribbean 2 and 3 were genuinely enjoyable movies. They were undoubtedly flawed, but I guess my cinematic standards were lower than other peoples. The final battle of the third film with the Black Pearl fighting the Flying Dutchman was one of my favorite climatic battles in any film, with just the setting in which the battle takes place, the stakes in the battle and all the action that's happening in it, not to mention the freaking wedding in the middle.

I'm really liking Resident Evil 5 (which I'm playing in 2013, gasp). It's a fun co-op game with zombies in it, and any fun co-op game with zombies in it is good in my book. I don't care that it's copy/pasted from RE4 (one of my favorite games), I don't care that ally AI sucks in a lot of resources (how should I know, I'm in for the couch co-op) and I don't care inventory-managing happens in real-time. I've dealt with that last bit in Diablo and Demon's Souls, I'm sure I can coast it in RE5, which seems obscenely easy (yet fun!) so far.

Michael Bay movies. Just... in general. Seriously. I think The Rock is a genuinely great action movie, and I do admittedly have a bit of a soft spot for Bad Boys, Bad Boys II, Armageddon, and The Island.

I actually did enjoy Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest and Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End just as much as the first movie, though I never did see the fourth.

I legitimately enjoy Alien 3 and Alien: Resurrection, even though I don't think they're as good as Alien or Aliens. And for that matter, I did actually have some fun watching Alien vs. Predator: Requiem even though I fully acknowledge that it was a garbage movie.

I really like the movie Virus quite a bit, despite it being a pretty generic SciFi/Horror movie.

Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus is so delightfully stupid that it's actually kind of endearing to me in a way that none of those other crappy low-budget monster movies have been.

And honestly... pretty much anything with Nicolas Cage. The guy's a terrible actor, and his movies are usually cheesy as hell, but they're almost always entertaining to me anyway.

Howard the Duck

Beat that! Yeah, it's dumb, but that's what you get when you make a movie about a duck from outerspace. It's also about a friggin duck from outerspace, who fights a giant demonic space scorpion with a laser mounted golfcart. And it's really well shot too and has an awesome soundtrack, minus the 80's pop tunes.

I honestly don't understand what people have against this movie apart from it's ridiculous premise.

The movie ghost writer. I know they probably got the mythos wrong on a bizzilion levels, but I loved the fights. The rider seemed to have a lot in common with Bleach characters, also ridiculously overpowered for poorly explained reasons (especially Ichigo)but no one judges them on that. (Well okay they do, but most get over it.)

Digimon.

Well, that's a bit of a loaded answer. But the English dub of the first two seasons is legitimately awful, plus it just seems rather low-budget in many areas in general, and yet I still love it. Partly for the nostalgia, partly for the absolute hilarity of how bad the extra puns and quips they added in can get. The third season is actually pretty good from what I've watched so far, though (I saw a bit of it when I was younger, but never really followed it even as much as the rare times I saw episodes from the first two seasons); Much better English dub along with overall higher production values and vastly improved pacing. I still quite like the 'films' associated with the first two seasons though, even without the filter of nostalgia and punny goodness.

The Star Wars prequels.

Phantom Menace is actually one of my favorite Star Wars films. The other two don't hold up nearly as well outside of the action sequences, but I do genuinely think The Phantom Menace is a good film. I don't care enough to justify it though, I've seen and had those arguments far too many times.

Oh, also the Abrams Star Trek films. I'll admit I don't really care about '09 Trek because I can't remember most of it, but I thought Into Darkness was pretty good and a very fun watch. I'm a heretic because of it, it seems, as no self-respecting fan of TOS would ever like Into Darkness, according to the internet.

Actually I found the Phantom Menace enjoyable too and I've found many people in my art and CG classes actually adore the pod racing scene. We all agree it goes on too long, but it's hard to argue that it isn't very well done in general. Really it felt like a great kids film (and really, if you're going to piss and moan about the fact that people die in it... grow up, folks die in real life too) considering Anikin's prime role rather than just being sidelined so the adults can get to work. Really, other than a few of Jar Jar's scenes, I never have seen anything really that atrocious about the film. I think the rage really comes from two places, while "not that bad" the film just isn't "that good" and expectations for the film when it came out were so high, there's no way it could have lived up. Course am I the only one who remembers it not receiving such hatred when it was first released?

I really enjoyed James Cameron's Avatar.

I think people get too hung up on the plot. It's just "Pocahontas in space". Well, so what if the plot is so similar? The Lion King is more than just "Hamlet with lions", and Romeo and Juliet is more than just "Pyramus and Thisbe without lions". If Romeo and Juliet gets a free pass from charges of unoriginal plot, then Avatar should, too.

The design was always the point of the film. The spectacle. I especially loved the soldier guy jumping out of the flaming plane, in his badass robo-suit.

I love the podracing scene more for the impact it had on gaming than anything else. Star Wars Episode 1 Racer is one of the few racing games that I absolutely adore.

Really it felt like a great kids film (and really, if you're going to piss and moan about the fact that people die in it... grow up, folks die in real life too) considering Anikin's prime role rather than just being sidelined so the adults can get to work.
I will admit that I was pretty young the first time I saw... well, any of the Star Wars films, and that's the excuse I'll give for why I still have favorable impressions of Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith (though Revenge has some really great scenes in it), but with The Phantom Menace it's still one I can just sit down and enjoy as a piece of entertainment today.

Really, other than a few of Jar Jar's scenes, I never have seen anything really that atrocious about the film. I think it's become more noticeable and overblown over time (especially with the whole Red Letter Media thing), but there were people who complained about midichlorians and Jar Jar Binks and Anakin Skywalker even back in 1999. There just wasn't quite so big of an echo chamber for them to voice their displeasure at the time. For that matter, while I can understand the complaints about Anakin in the subsequent films, in The Phantom Menace he's mostly a cocksure boy who thinks he's got the world in his palms despite his upbringing, so I've never understood the complaints about him being some "whiny kid"--unless that's just a placeholder complaint people use whenever child actors are put into films, which I wouldn't discount either.

Let see
Cars- I liked the special effect (from the road point of view as the cars drove passed it) and the moral to that movie (things are more fun when you have friends around with you).

The Butterfly Effect- I like the moral/ message to it (fate is cruel) and the story itself was interesting (guy try many way to alter his history to save the girl he loved).

Little Nicky- I enjoyed the movie including the comedy/ humour in it.

I saw no problem with GTA 4 and enjoyed the characters and story.

Avatar is a good movie. The plot may not be the best, but the action just overrules all of the faults.

FF13 is not that bad. I can't compare it to any other FF but I've enjoyed my time playing it. The characters are not the best and the combat is poorly executed, but I do enjoy the story and character development.

The two that stand out to me are Con Air and Transformers.

I will admit that Con Air has an absolutely ridiculous plot, and even the plot point to get Nicholas Cage's character where he needs to be when shit goes down is contrived as all hell (seriously, judges are NOT allowed to accept a guilty plea, then convict him of a different crime than he plead guilty to), but it just goes so far into "cheesy action movie" that it wraps around to being glorious.

As for Transformers...yeah, no defense. I just really liked the robot fights. Plus, the first movie at least tried to balance out the human aspect, and wasn't nearly as juvenile as RotF. That movie was terrible, even to me.

I actually enjoyed Battleship.

Almost everytime I see a review about it though, I can't help but wonder if we saw the same movie.

Because at no time did the aliens come off as invaders or even hostile to me...

I actually liked both Digimon and The Phantom Menace. The Clone Wars on the other hand... I didn't manage to finish that movie and I tried twice.

I guess I should suggest something myself... Loaded Weapon 1. I won't even regard it as a guilty pleasure. Disliked among the critics disliked among the general audience, but damn I do love the movie so much. I have watched it at least 5 times and I still find myself laughing at jokes I know by heart. I genuinely love this movie, but with most comedies I usually find myself loving the ones that get bad ratings while not liking the ones with high ratings. I guess that means I got bad taste. Oh well, it makes me happy.

Probably the Street Fighter film, and that is because of one man- Raul Julia

An absolutely epic performance, it is just a shame it is in a film that is universally regarded as crap, but I find it fun.

I see you, other person with a Trevor icon...

OP; obviously it's the DOOM movie. Fuck what anyone said, that movie was awesome and a fun time. I mean, who wouldn't want to see Karl Urban and the Rock throw things at each other? It makes me happy. Very Happy.
