I just saw the gravestone scene of Forrest Gump again on TV, and it made me think of this. Its always been one of my favorite monologues from a movie.

You died on a Saturday morning. And I had you placed here under our tree. And I had that house of your father's bulldozed to the ground. Momma always said dyin' was a part of life. I sure wish it wasn't. Little Forrest, he's doing just fine. About to start school again soon. I make his breakfast, lunch, and dinner every day. I make sure he combs his hair and brushes his teeth every day. Teaching him how to play ping-pong. He's really good. We fish a lot. And every night, we read a book. He's so smart, Jenny. You'd be so proud of him. I am. He, uh, wrote a letter, and he says I can't read it. I'm not supposed to, so I'll just leave it here for you. Jenny, I don't know if Momma was right or if, if it's Lieutenant Dan. I don't know if we each have a destiny, or if we're all just floating around accidental-like on a breeze, but I, I think maybe it's both. Maybe both is happening at the same time. I miss you, Jenny. If there's anything you need, I won't be far away.
I couldn't find a video of it, or I would have posted that.

So, what are ya'lls favorite movie monologues?

You made me a sad panda again. That part always wells me up in tears.
Same for me. I had just woken up and the TV was on right as he started going into that when I saw it today, so it was even more sad and disorienting than usual.

No contest. Based in part off a real speech; most of the cursing was edited out.

I think I saw that movie several years ago. I didn't remember that speech, but it was quite excellent. Enjoyed watching it just now.

Is it bad that this makes me laugh every time I see it?

My favorite is a scene in a stellar movie which I don't know a single other person besides my family who has seen it. The Movie is Waking Ned Divine. There is a scene in there which I can't find a clip of and I need to get to sleep soon so I won't go through the entire movie just to find the scene but the jist of it is this.

Jackie is giving the eulogy at Ned's funeral when the man who has been sent to verify their claim of the winning lotto ticket, that Ned had before he died, walks in and Jackie stops for a second. he then continues the eulogy as if it were for his friend Michal who is pretending to be Ned. He give this awesome speech about how touching it would be to see your own funeral, and he says all these nice things about Michal, who is sitting right there in front of him. its a very touching scene.

Pulp fiction death speech. You all know what I'm talking about.

I can't be bothered to find it on youtube.

Samuel L Jackson is a genius.

The monologue from Emma Thompson's charachter at the end of "Stranger than Fiction"
There's a few good monologues in this fantastic movie, but that one's my favorite.

A close second would be Anton Ego's monologue towards the end of "Ratatouille"

The "Hang Glider" speech from Harold and Kumar go to White Castle.

And pretty much all of Rorschach's inner monologues in Watchmen.

Then there's Gary Oldman's final lines in The Dark Knight.

As much as I want to pick something as classic as Mr. Stewart above me, I keep coming back to Bill's speech about Superman at the end of Kill Bill part 2.

Now, a staple of the superhero mythology is there's the superhero and there's the alter ego. Batman is actually Bruce Wayne, Spider-Man is actually Peter Parker. When that character wakes up in the morning, he's Peter Parker. He has to put on a costume to become Spider-Man. And it is in that characteristic Superman stands alone. Superman didn't become Superman. Superman was born Superman. When Superman wakes up in the morning, he's Superman. His alter ego is Clark Kent. His outfit with the big red "S", that's the blanket he was wrapped in as a baby when the Kents found him. Those are his clothes. What Kent wears - the glasses, the business suit - that's the costume. That's the costume Superman wears to blend in with us. Clark Kent is how Superman views us. And what are the characteristics of Clark Kent? He's weak, he's unsure of himself, he's a coward. Clark Kent is Superman's critique on the whole human race.
It's only after that that I gave Supes a chance as a three dimensional character.
