Beowulf. Totally. The first truly noble hero in history.

The movie ruined him.
I wouldn't call Beowulf "noble." He only got involved with Grendel because his fellow humans were making so much noise at their perpetual drunken parties that the poor monster couldn't sleep. And then he tore his arm off, killed his mother, and wouldn't shut up about it until they made him king.

And you should check out the Icelandic movie, Beowulf & Grendel. It handles the culture better, and has troll sex!

Thor and Loki getting Thor's hammer back from the frost giant Thrym. Mainly because it involved the two cross-dressing and Thor pulling off a spectacularly bad performance masquerading as Freya (and Loki's incredible skill at fast-talking).

(After the giants are dead)

Loki: "Nice job, Freya."
Thor: "Shut the hell up. We will never speak of this again."
Yeah, Thor said that to Loki a lot, didn't he?

Of course, knowing what Loki eventually pulls, I guess it really doesn't matter.

EDIT @topic: Can I say Jesus? OH, ho ho ho.

Correction. Ray Winstone ruined him. The film just had a shite on his name.

7 cities of Cibola, I guess I'm the only person who actually likes the legends and mysteries of the American West.

Thrymskviða is awesome. Gotta love cross dressing Gods.

I've always been fascinated with the Norse mythology. It's by far the most interesting in my opinion.
I grew up on Greek and Norse myths, and I gotta agree. Both sets of gods were assholes, of course, but the Norse tended towards "badass." With a few exceptions (Heracles, Hades, Athena, off the top of my head), the Greek gods and demigods were more often self-obsessed pricks.

I'm starting to look into Celtic mythology. And not just because of <url=http://img24.imageshack.us/img24/7396/447s.jpg>these <url=http://fuc.wdfiles.com/local--files/0lancer/0lancer530.png>guys (<url=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cuchulain>I'm lying, <url=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diarmuid_Ua_Duibhne>of course).

I'm kinda bad with remembering stuff from classes i've had, Helots were what Spartans called their slaves/lower class, right?

and I'm a fan of The Iliad myself.

I like the myth of Procrustes.

Basically, Procrustes is this dude who has this castle or fortress or something sitting in the middle of a really long mountain pass; it's the only place to rest if you're travelling through it, so he gets a lot of strangers knocking on his door asking if they can pop in for a rest.

He always says yes, but beforehand invites his visitors to lay down on a bed. If they're too short for the bed (which women almost always are), he has them stretched out on the rack until they're tall enough. If they're too tall (which men almost always are), he has bits of them chopped off until they're short enough.

One day, along comes Theseus. He asks to stay overnight. Procrustes says "sure, just hop on this bed first." Theseus says, "naw, you hop on it." For some reason, Procrustes says "OK," hops on, and is too tall. Theseus chops off his head to make him short enough.

The entire Odyssey. If anyone here hasn't read it, if you have any interest at all in Greek Mythology, check it out now. Go.

I'll wait.

For a civilisation noted for its great thinkers they sure did have a couple of 'tards in there.

Cool story. ^^

Well I actually read The Odyssey (not of my own free will though) and I must admit it is fairly impressive. So I guess my vote goes for that.
