I'm a big fan of chiptune music. This is mainly due to the fact I grew up playing NES games. There is some really good that was made with just 3 music channels. So Lets talk about some good NES music.

Let me get two of the obvious ones out of the way,

Most of my NES education came via the ones you could unlock in the original Animal Crossing (my console gaming started in the SNES era), but I do quite enjoy the music from Balloon Fight. It was even my ringtone for a while until I replaced it with a clip of John Hurt screaming about a fez.

I don't even like the game that much, but that sample gets me all teary eyed everytime. There's just such a pure heroic drive to it.

Although it's just a retro style game, Manos The Hands of Fate for mobile has this great song in the first level. It's a strange game because it's made in the 8-bit style, as if it were the companion game for the original movie, which is over 40 years old. Anyway, the music from the first level is the best part, and might be based on a song from the soundtrack.

Final fantasy . The town music and the boss theme . When they remade the town theme for FINAL FANTASY DISSIDIA , my ears had orgasms.

But, nothing beats the nostalgia trip i have everytime i hear the main theme.


And everytime they remake it in a new game i got nuts.

My favorite would probably be the original Zelda theme, but since everyone knows that one I'll go with another great NES Zelda song. Zelda II Palace Theme!


Many people probably heard it first in the Smash Bros. Melee Zelda stage first. Glad to hear it make a comeback in A Link Between Worlds too when you fight Street Pass Shadow Links.

That one's named Vampire Killer. The Castlevania series has some of my favorite music ever, and the NES installments are no exception. If I had to pick 1 from each NES game. Hmmm the ones that jump to mind right now are "Wicked Child" "Bloody Tears" and "Aquarius"
