Let's do a little experiment. Lovers of JRPGs generally put a Square Soft / Square Enix game at the top of their lists (FF6, Chrono Trigger, etc). So here's a question:

What is your favorite JRPG that was not designed or produced by Square?

Fire Emblem 7 is one of them.

Golden Sun 2, Super Robot Taisen OG Saga:Endless Frontier, and Spectrobes are also a few of my favorites.

Well if you want to be difficult about it. I guess I have to say either Skies of Arcadia, Lunar Silver Star Harmony, or Panzer Dragoon Saga.

I'm not sure if this counts but I will argue for it: "D2" on the Dreamcast.

It's a cross between J-horror and J-RPG, sort of what "Parasite Eve" should have been if it had better graphics and controls and was actually scary.

It's not that particularly big of an offshoot (as Mistwalker's founders were from Square Enix, unless my memory is failing me), but I love me some Lost Odyssey.
Never really got attached to anything Square Enix has done though.

I'd pick Deadly Premonition, but it's not an RPG. xD

I still want to play a Persona game too. Haven't had the chance yet.

SMT Series (Probably Persona 3 Portable), Disgaea 1, Star Ocean (the original, the next 3 weren't that great), Tales of... series (If I had to pick one then Phantasia) and Secret of Mana 2

I keep forgetting that the awesomeness of Seiken Densetsu 3 was by Sqaure D:

The "Breath of Fire" series, with the original topping the list, followed by 2 and 3.

P3P was so watered down though from the PS2 version.. no anime cut scenes with extreme violence? BOO... Still good though. Did the female protagonist really add that much for you to put it above the original?

OT: I said this on the other thread, but I'll say it again since this thread seems to have more buzz: tied between SMT: Nocturne and Persona 3, with Disgaea series coming in at a distant second.

Ya I missed the anime cut scenes, but to me it seemed like there was enough added content/upgrades that it seemed better then P3/FES
