I'm sorry, but since when is that an obscure movie? I remember ads for that all over the place not long ago.

On topic, mine would have to be Never Cry Wolf. It's an older live-action Disney movie. It's the story of a researcher sent out to Alaska to investigate the local wolf population. The wolves are being thought of as the culprits in a sudden drop in the local caribou population, and the wildlife organizations are wanting to take a chunk out of their population.

To research them, the guy immerses himself in their world. He parks his tent right next to the home of a mother wolf and her cubs. At one point a male wolf comes by and urinates on his radio--marking that as his territory. In retaliation, the guy goes and drinks a lot of tea, and then proceeds to urinate a perimeter around his camp. Surely enough, the wolf stopped by again, but after sniffing his perimeter the wolf backed down! It's got a lot of dry humor and sometimes it gets a bit slow, but it is very different from anything else I've ever seen, and I haven't seen anything like it since. And it's based on a true story.

The Boondock Saints and its sequel. Two of the best movies I've ever seen, and have yet to meet anyone who has seen it prior to me mentioning it (Those basement dwellers on IMDB excluded).

Strange Brew

Probably the best clean comedy I've ever seen. No one I've ever talked to has heard of it.
Hey, somebody horked our clothes!

Cool Special Effects eh?

Fucking love that movie.

Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon [http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0437857/]

Its a mockumentary set in a world where serial killers like Jason Vorhees, Freddy Kreuger, and Michael Myers are all real. The documentary follows the up and coming supernatural serial killer Leslie Vernon. It's hilarious. It's about all the stuff Leslie does to set up his teen killing spree, about all the symbolism of it, etc.

If you like slasher movies, you MUST see this. If you liked the parts in the Scream series where they went over "the rules", you'll LOVE this movie.

Thumbsucker. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thumbsucker_%28film%29

I can relate to it because I still suck my thumb on occasion. Plus Keanu Reeves is in it.

MirrorMask.
Neil Gaiman + Dave McKean + Jim Henson Company = Beautiful CGI, a compelling story, original ideas that really shine. Plus, it's incredibly well acted.
It's hard to say what really is obscure though. As I'm sure this wasn't intentionally as small as it became (and to be honest, I have no idea how popular this movie was).

Memorable mentions are Saved! with Mandy Moore (genius comedy) and Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within (I thought it was a wonderful Sci-Fi movie, and I do consider this obscure as a lot of the gaming community knows about it, but outside of that it's just not remembered at all) and finally Shortbus (the porno with a heart or the movie about sex that doesn't shy away from real sex scenes, call it what you want).

I love that movie! You are the first person I have ever seen reference that movie (apart from my group of friends that I have shown the movie to).

Well done my friend.

I'm actually surprised nobody actually named any David Lynch movies (or if you did I'm sorry I didn't acknowledged it) but if I had to chose only one I'd say ''Eraserhead''

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bBpd5xy-vCY so you can see why most people wouldn't go through the first scene.

someone mentioned Cronenberg's movies (videodrome, crash and naked lycnh are my favourites (I can't believe no one saw that movie in my class (and I'm in an art school... and I'm canadian (french canadian to be exact)))

someone also mentioned fritz the cat (the ''rape'' scene was actually pretty good, but I think I prefered the second one ''the nine lives of fritz the cat'')

but one I must add to the list that is just plain fucking ridiculous and borderline unwatchable ''cannibal : the musical''

funny games was mentioned also but I'm re-adding it only cuz it is the only movie that actually made ME feel like a dick for actually wanting to see it (it's hard to understand the meaning of this statement if you haven't seen it)

And Finally ''The saddest music in the world'' is just a plain fucking fantasticly well crafted movie, an other magnificient canadian movie

(like I said I'm french canadian sorry if my english ain't so great at times)

Is it sad that I've seen about a third of the movies mentioned here? many (Heavy Metal for example) I never thought were obscure.
OT:
A Scanner Darkly
Donnie Darko
Requiem for a Dream
hmm... the problem with listing obscure movies is that I don't know which ones are all that obscure.

well, apparently Serenity as literally nobody I know IRL who wasn't a rabid Firefly fan has heard of that movie. Ofcourse it's really only obscure because of horrible marketing, but that counts!

4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days. It won the Palme d'Or in 2007 for Pete's sake!

Moon: an indie sci-fi movie (apparently that's possible) that's well-paced, really gets into your head, and is probably the closest thing we'll get to Portal: The Movie.

Brotherhood of The Wolf - French film with some awesome scenes and great actors.

A Scanner Darkly - If you haven't seen this go do this now! Amazing performances by Keanu Reeves, Robert Downey Jr, Woody Harrelson and Winona Ryder.
I have to read the book first (A Scanner Darkly, that is)! D:
