The Room From Tommy Wiseau

"YOUR TEARING ME APART LISA!"
"HAI DOGGY!"
"oh hai Mark"

such a quoteably horrible movie.

Moon: an indie sci-fi movie (apparently that's possible) that's well-paced, really gets into your head, and is probably the closest thing we'll get to Portal: The Movie.
Moon was great as well.

It was directed by David Bowie's son, I think. A shame so few people have heard about it.

Pink Floyd's The Wall

Everyone knows the album, or at least Another Brick in the Wall Part 2. However, not a lot of people know that they made a movie out of it, and that it's incredible.

It's very surreal, and with its use of images and music to tell the story rather than dialogue, it isn't for everyone, but I love it wholeheartedly.
A person in my History of Cinema class did a project on one of the scenes in it. Very trippy.

My list:

- Der Untergang (Downfall): a German movie about the last days of Hitler in his bunker.

- Repo! The Genetic Opera: a crazy musical about a dystopian society and... yeah, you need to see it to understand it.

- The Punisher: A good revenge tale with a great John Travolta performance.

- The Island: I don't understand why this isn't more popular. It looks like it's big budget.
It has a great, sometimes even deep, story about two clones escaping. It has fun action. What's not to like?

- El Mariachi: Robert Rodriguez made his first movie, El Mariachi, on a budget of less than $9000. He did studies on medicine to finance it.

- From Dusk till Dawn: Another Rodriguez film flick, with George Clooney and Quentin Tarantino as the two lead characters. It has the most surprising plot twist ever, at least if you're not expecting it. It definitely surprised my parents when we watched it.

- Planet Terror: No one has heard of it, yet everyone knows the woman with the machine gun leg from this Grindhouse movie from Rodriguez. It's probably my favourite movie ever.

- Leon/The Professional: Seriously, why does no one know about this one? It's an amazing movie. Although I have to say, the extended theatrical version is a lot better than the shorter director's cut.

- Rat Race: This is a brilliant comedy, with an all-star cast. Yet it somehow got brushed under the table.

- Hell Ride: Kidding, this movie is terrible in a box. I'm still pissed at the trailer [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jHglhwcwO8I] for making it look cool.

Three people so far have mentioned Lock, Stock & Two Smoking Barrels, out of what, 20 responses?

That movie isn't obscure, it's huge. It's famous. Everybody knows it. Hell, everybody's mum knows it. I'm not sure I've ever met someone who didn't know it.

OT: Probably Let the Right One In, if that even counts as being obscure after having received so much attention. If not that, then... A Scanner Darkly. That was awesome, and I'm pretty sure it was obscure.

Shiiiiiit I think I may have seen that.

Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels.

Think of Trainspotting with more guns and less drugs.
Lock stock is in no way an obscure film, it's a modern English classic.
OT: I tend not to enjoy obscure films, some tend to be kinda pretentious, although Funny Games is quite good in a depressing terrifying kind of way.

Blackbeard the Pirate, starring Robert Newton - the man who almost single-handedly devised the 'pirate accent' that actors have been using for decades. It's a little campy, but fun.

Clue. Great ensemble cast, hilariously funny, and always: nostalgia.

Foxy Brown / Coffy / Black Mama, White Mama. Anything from the 70's that stars Pam Grier is worth a watch.

Ravenous. Cheeky and disturbing.

Huh, really didn't know that.

I just have never heard that film mentioned anywhere until I saw it.
Then again I live in Australia so...

I noticed it's almost all serious movies here, but I enjoyed Six-String Samurai [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Six-String_Samurai], its limited budget and high ambitions are the reasons I love movies, sure it flopped plus it was never a great movie by far but its fun and apologetically weird which in this day and age is either rare or done for sheer shock value
Other honorable mentions
Renaissance [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Renaissance_%28film%29], A French animated action movie
Bubba Ho-Tep [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bubba_Ho_Tep], for featuring Bruce Campbell as a geriatric comedy rock star
Moon [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moon_%28film%29], for being just generally amazing in all ways
Primer [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Primer_%28film%29], My head still reels from it
The Great Dictator [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Great_Dictator], we always seem to forget the classics
and Shadow of the Vampire [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shadow_of_the_vampire], for giving Malkovitch and Dafoe a chance to try to outweird each other.

Brotherhood of The Wolf - French film with some awesome scenes and great actors.

A Scanner Darkly - If you haven't seen this go do this now! Amazing performances by Keanu Reeves, Robert Downey Jr, Woody Harrelson and Winona Ryder.
