Just for simplicity, it would be nice to keep internet song parodies out of the mix. But aside from that, the question is pretty simple: What is your favorite parody and why?

For me, it's Galaxy Quest. Galaxy Quest was a high budget Sci-Fi comedy that made fun of the Star Trek franchise and their fans. The ironic thing though was that even though the movie poked fun at its source material, it also paid great attribute to it.

The idea of it is that Galaxy Quest was a TV Show much like Star Trek that still had conventions years after it was canceled. By some chance meeting, the leading actor from the TV Show comes to contact with a group of aliens he believes to just be crazed fans of the show. Even though they are, the aliens came in contact with the show and believed them to be historical documents, not fictional entertainment. The Aliens then ask for the actors' help to save them from a species of aliens that much reflect Cling-Ons in Star Trek. The acting is great, the movie is beautiful and unlike many parodies I've seen, it has serious moments as well as comedic ones, making it feel like an original movie.

Also, the fact they do such a good job at blending the CGI works with the puppeteer works for a 90's movie is pretty awesome.

To me it got to be the film Hot Shots 1 and 2. I guess the Austin Powers trilogy may count as a parody due it being like James Bond.

Starship Troopers

A futuristic propaganda movie about pretty and clean-cut American youths fighting evil bugs from outerspace.

I know a lot of purists from the book hate this movie, but that simply makes me love it even more.

Hot Shots part Deux. That film was just so hilarious in every way, and officially the bloodiest movie ever!

This piece of filmographic awesomeness makes up for everything else Charlie Sheen has ever done.

Does Dr. Strangelove count as a parody of the Cold War? Well, if you want a parody of something specific, Spaceballs.

Shaun of the Dead. The absolute perfect execution of black comedy and brilliant parody of all things zombie.
Indeed.
I thoroughly enjoyed that film.

And why has no one mentioned Robin Hood: Men in Tights [http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0107977/] yet?

Spaceballs. I mean Blazing Saddles is funnier, but Spaceballs was the first Mel Brooks movie I've ever seen, so it's got a special place in my heart

If it counts, the Futurama episode "Where No Fan Has Gone Before". Seriously, that has to be the funniest Futurama out there. The cast of the show meets the actual Star Trek cast, and they just poke fun at every Star Trek cliche the whole time. It's just brilliant.

Parody of nineties Hip-Hop videos/content, possibly Hip-Hop culture in general. Sadly, it's difficult to tell.
