Hrm...

The originals are nice and all, but they just haven't quite stood the test of time. I don't think I could enjoy it all that much any more, but that comes from having played through it more times than any other game in my library. I did like some of the designs they used for the sprites; they weren't always clear, but sprites like Rapidash, Nidoking and scyther were delightfully dynamic. And Dragonite actually looked a bit menacing then.
(Nidoran male's is as creepy as all Hell, though)
The greatest thing about it, and one of the reasons I will love it forever, though, is the glitches. No other game creates worlds and creatures with such a drastic, unpredictable experience as what Pokemon does.

My favorite generation was G/S/C; I love the aesthetics of the world, the sound, and I liked many of the pokemon that came from them designing off of the limited G/B/C color palette.
I mean, if Tyrannatar came out in gen 3 or above, it would have to have some sort of colorful, pointless markings a la Rayquaza's lipstick.
I also like how its just darker. After Gen 3, it felt like the pokemon games had internalized the pokemon anime, instead of having its own sort of flavor.

I mean, they go from the game's antagonists being gangsters who commit murder and find all sorts of ways to mutilate and torture pokemon for their own gain, to misguided hippies.

If you can't tell, I have a strong dislike for Gen 3.

Gen 4 was quite a redeemer for me after the GBA games; I thought it had started on a downward slope when these games picked up the pieces and made something great out of it.
With the designs... Well, there were a lot of stupid ones to be sure, but Drifloon, Garchomp and Lucario made me more welcoming of the new elements that frequented recent additions to the pokedex.
The world was big, the campaign pushed you to new heights in levels, and the world and its music was bright and managed to avoid the gaudy look of its predecessor.

I have yet to play Gen 5, but it looks great. I fell in love with CHandelure and its family already.

Gold. First video game I ever played, and to this day still one of my favorites.

Black and White. Looks like after the 15 years since the launch of Red and Blue I can finally say that Black and White are the best in the series. I've played every main-series game from then to now.

-New, interesting setting.
-Visually creative characters, such as gym leaders.
-Competent villain, and (for a Pokemon game) the most despicable.
-Visually great Pokemon, they're all very creative. I can admit, I could do without Stunfisk, however. The names and origins of the new bunch are all pretty clever, Stunfisk included.
-For a Pokemon game, a rather deep story.
-Great soundtrack with throwbacks to each of the previous games.
-The game is, again for a Pokemon game, cosmetically interesting. Graphics have improved very much over the years.
-Game can be challenging at times.
-Sympathetic characters. While the Pokemon games aren't going to win an award for outstanding writing and storytelling, it seemed that the characters were at least somewhat relateable. Main characters, that is. Gym leaders and enemy trainers are just random fights as usual.

My only real complaint would be the lack of post-game things to do. It's pretty much just the Battle Subway. Here's hoping that Grey Version adds more things to do. Looking forward to that 6th generation sometime.

Probably FireRed, I really liked how they approached that one can't say I really enjoyed later ones, because I don't own any other than a heavily modified Gameboy Color (in a way that my uncle likes to build that sort of shit and just crammed the internal unit of the Advance into a Color frame, damn cool if you ask me)

This sum up my feelings about B/W, and honestly if I didn't have such an attachment to the 2nd Gen, they would be my favorite entries in the series.

I disagree about Stunfisk though. It's absolutely hilarious, much like Dunsparce, has a unique typing, and an uncanny resemblance to Awesomeface.

Derpfish is awesome. :3

Same overall story, with a reworking in B/W, and same concept. Everything else, no, but from an outsider's perspective, they do seem that way, I'll give you that.

None cause they all boil down to the same thing basically and none is particularly good.

After a while, I warmed up to Stunfisk. It's more of a reluctant fondness. I named mine Derpy Doo. I just wish he was more practical.

"Ground Electric? That's neat. Wait, his ability is Limber? Wait a minute, Ground is already immune to paralysis, because it's immune to Electric. What's that? Oh! He's immune to Body Slam and Stun Spore now.

Way to troll, Gamefreak.

Well, we're in agreement on that. Just because it's unique it doesn't make it particularly useful.

To be honest I just like having it on my team, despite its poor stats and useless ability. Good thing I don't battle competitively and that Pokémon games in general are easy enough that you can clear them with any of your given favorites. That's always been one of the biggest charms of the series to me.

But we're kind of drifting off topic here. :p

Heartgold/Soulsilver. It gave Gold and Silver the storyline of Crystal, the gameplay polish of 3rd and 4th gens, and added great features like gym leader rematches. Everything hit the right notes and it was the most satisfactory remake I've ever played. Now, if you brought over the battle enhancements of Black and White, you would have the ultimate Pokemon game. Sadly, Black and White failed on me on the end-game longevity, for some reason forsaking many of the forward-thinking elements of HG/SS in exchange for a speedier battle engine.

Remember Gale of Darkness? I rather liked the aspect of catching other peoples pokemon and purifying them. My favorite handheld pokemon game is the Gold version.

Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald. I feel that it had a really really good plot, I liked all of the starters, and they were the most innovative of all of the games. Double battles, contests, battle frontier, not too many retarded looking pokemon, and I think everyone has to agree here, FREAKING SWEET LEGENDARIES. Actually, you dont have to agree, that was just me being cocky...
I agree i will always agree, i will never disagree unless it was to agree with the disagreement for agreeing with the diagree'ers :D in short emerald was uber

I haven't yet played Black and White.

My favorite so far though is Yellow. I liked how they added Jessie and James, and how you could get all the starters.

Mine would have to be Red, though Gold was pretty fun, too. I prefer to play them on emulators now, though, since everyone of my cartridges somehow deleted my saved games. I was pissed. On my Gold version, I had Pokemon that I kept trading from older games for years. They had value. I suppose that's what I get for having a team of six Mewtwos, all of which had Recover.

I also like the mystery of that damn truck in Blue and Red. What was it for? Was it Mew? Or just a glitch? The possibilities are exciting. I'm gonna go look it up, now.

EDIT: Sadness, there is no real point to the truck. I did learn an interesting glitch to get Mew, though (not involving the truck)

Black and White. My favorite story. The only game where I was able to make my dream team of pokemon and not feel like 'I don't like that pokemon but, I'll include it anyway because nothing else is any better'. The music was fantastic. The bit with Cynthia post game was an awesome, so is the dude in the Gamefreak Building. The Legendarys are amazing. The constant pokemon animations. The whole revamp with HM's the fact that you do not need them anymore to progress. The friend/rivalry was done really well. The first gym. The third city. I just loved everything about this game.
