My vote is for the original Spyro.
A close second is Threads of Fate.
Any thoughts?

i'm going to have to say Goldeneye the multiplayer was just genius, and has only been sniffed at since, by the same team with the timesplitter series. Before you correct me i mean multiplayer in the aspect of sitting in the same room as the people your playing with, i'm very aware there are much better games in the online gaming generation.

the game that kept me the most entertained and the most SCREAMING for a sequel (although all the sequels have been a disappointment fest for me), was Metal Gear Solid.

I didn't play the older metal gears on the NES, so MGS was my first taste stealth espionage action

and let me say, it blew me away. I was biting my nails til the very end.

Derrdumdumdum...beerrdarrrr....Derrdumdumdum...beerrdarrrr..Goldeneeeyyyyeee. Oh wait, already been done.

I would say either MGS, Crash bandicoot 2/3 or Mario 64.

Metal Gear Solid because it took game to a point no-one had even tried, never mind succeeded so spectacularly. Ironically the limits of the PS1 probably made it better, with roughly 1.4gb to play with Kojima had to be quite succinct.

Crash Bandicoot because no games before or after have been so funny, family friendly and playable. Whilst CB2 is insanely difficult, it was also fair, you died because you missed. not because of a glitch.

Mario 64 because it was the first 3-D platformer I've ever played, I also got my hands on it again last year and discovered that patformers haven't really changed at all in the last 11 years. It's also one of the best designed platformers ever made. Mario has an enormous array of moves in an era when move-jump-attack was more than most platformers could muster.
The levels were designed so that you had to use all of them, but without the lead by the hand sign posting that seems to permeate all games nowadays.

Although if you forced me to pick one game it would be Colony Wars: Vengeance
That game was gorgeous, it still looks good now even on the PS1. Insanely difficult and at times hopelessly unfair. All it's faults are forgiven though for one simple reason, the sound.

Full surround sound on the PS1 and the only game to ever blow out my TV's speakers, loudest explosions in any game ever.
fzzt......BOOOOOOOM!!!

wait, Dreamcast was in the same era as PSone?!?!?!?

The following spring to mind:
Goldeneye
Ocarina of Time
Perfect Dark

Soul Reaver
Tomb Raider 1+2
Resident evil 1+2
Silent Hill
Metal Gear Solid

And with the exception of Tomb Raider (that got the reboot with Legends) all of these PSone releases were better than their sequels for the the PS2/PS3. I have to say PSone was probably the darkest and scariest consoles, having the original and best Silent Hill, Resident Evil before it became an action game, Soul Reaver and Metal Gear Solid. I mean in MGS you had to watch your girlfriend get shot and stranded in sniper fire, only to be forced to leave her to get a sniper rifle. Epic game.

N64: SSB & Mario 64

PS1: FFVII & Crash Bandicoot 3 (Warped)

I spent many, many hours of my childhood on those four games.

To the person who mentioned Goemen, i agree, ive only played the first one but it was great, the big robot, Impact i think he was called, fights were great fun.
To the person who mentioned Snowboard Kids, hell yeah. the multiplayer was soooo much fun and could get very competative.
To all those who mentioned Mario 64...meh. it was ok but it was changed too much from the original way, having growth mushrooms, fire flowers and invincibility stars was what Mario was all about. MArio Bros 3 will always be my fav.
To those who mentioned LOZ: OOT, greatest game EVER. MM wasnt as good, but had its moments.

other than those mentioned, Lylat Wars was awesome. ShadowMan is one of my favorites.
