There's different kinds of Real Life RPGs and yes, LARPing would be considered one. He's mainly looking for a game to play.
Unless I'm not familiar with his version, Assassin is a game played by a number of people in teams with one moderator. The moderator assigns targets to the teams who must "Assassinate" them by using water guns or water balloons, rolled up socks, NERF guns, whatever is deemed fine. It could be considered a Real Life RPG since you can be attacked anywhere. Know your target is going to the movies? Get him as he walks in. Works at McDonald's Drive-Thru, hit him while getting some food. The team to be the last one standing wins. There's usually a timer of one week per round with one target assigned to each team per round. It's pretty fun.
Another one that I know of is Humans Vs. Zombies, but it's usually played around Halloween but here's some rules for that (http://www.hvzathens.com/rules.htm) These are really the only two I know of.
