Same! Really hyped about Skyrim!
Hopefully Bethesda won't try and pull the XBOX prority crap on us again.

I'm very pleasantly surprised to see so many say their is the Golden Sun series, it's up there for me too.

Dragon Age Origins, Mass Effect I really liked Mount and Blade, played that for countless hours

Planescape Torment is my favorite. Never ever has I seen a game with so much depth. It was intelligent and fascinating and is still worth to play. To me, it is just a level above all other games.

I'm a huge fan of all the Infinite Engine games, så all these can be included. But I would also like to mention:

Vampire: The Masquerade: Bloodlines
Mass Effect 1+2
Neverwinter Nights 2: Mask of the Betrayer (the main game+second expansion were decent games, but not as great as this one)
Fallout: New Vegas
Dragon Age 1+2

Neverwinter Nights 2, Mask of the Betrayer. I loved the story to this game, and it serves as an example of me on how to make a good story with good characters. The only thing that needed work was the spirt eater bar, but you can get around that easily with cheats. Plus, it has the best "evil" ending in an RPG, one that makes sense
It makes sense that an evil person would take the power to destroy souls for themselves, and chalange the gods with it, rather than the NWN2 OC which had a poorly slapped on "evil ending. And the evil companion, One of Many, is the best evil companion in a game ever.
Plus, who doesn't want a giant spirit rainbow bear?

Other than that, I like all the Dragon Age and Mass Effect games thus far.

Fallout 2
Planescape: Torment
Vampire The Masquerade: Bloodlines
Baldurs Gate 1 + 2 + Expansions

Honorary mention to Neverwinter Nights 1 & 2 for providing endless amounts of online entertainment. The original campaigns suck though.

Mass Effect 2, every Fallout game, Paper Mario 1000 year Door.

Couldn't really ever get through Morrowind, after playing Fallout, I thought I could "do" some things in people's houses, but noooo, they get all mad and use super ultra magic on me. Nahhh, I think it was because there was no voice acting and my tiny brain couldn't get over that. In addition to that, a little fish killed me the second I went in the water. I hear it's a pretty fun game though.

The best RPGs are not RPG.

Jagged Alliance 2 - strategy game with more RPG goodness than anything
VTM Bloodlines - RPshooter

Same old from me - Final Fantasy, Baldur's Gate, IceWind Dale etc etc.

I'd be curious to know how many people have played Chrono Trigger on emulators against owning the thing on SNES (I've only emulated it) - it might be one of the few games were more people have experienced it first hand on an emulator.

Only if we don't include Dark Dawn, which was dreadful!

Baten Kaitos and Baten Kaitos: Origins - Best everything forever.

And Vampire The Masquerade: Bloodlines. If only it was given more time...

I quite liked Dark Dawn actually.

And how could I've frigging forgotten Fire Emblem the first on GBA.

-Chrono Trigger(Great story, characters, music, and gameplay)

-The World Ends With You(Amazing character development, story interesting, music is uh...interesting and good, battle system PAD and stylus at the same time? Ayup)

-Final Fantasy 6(Notice how story and character development brings me in? Yeah this one has it too. Music by Nobuo Uematsu ahh how I love him. Oh yeah it's FF sooo usually a good battle system)

Dragon Quest 5(STORY,MUSIC,FUN FUN FUN)
You my friend have excellent taste.

Though I'd have to add a couple of WRPGs such as Oblivion/Morrowind due to horrendous amounts of time spent just living in their world. What better defines a great RPG?

Fire Emblem was awesome. It's a little weird that the first one on GBA (I think it was first - with Hector and Eliwood) is also the only one I've played.

And you're right, Dark Dawn was good - I got it for christmas and happily played it through to the end in a fairly unbroken couple days play, I just felt it had a lot of flaws that stopped it being great. I certainly didn't feel it lived up to earlier installments in the series.

No one is ever going to challenge that statement. Still, story wise I did enjoy it the most.

At least they were making RPG's back then.
