The torture chamber in Amnesia. Specifically the Iron Maiden room.

The game has almost no jump scares, but this one time made me almost fall over in my seat. It was definitely earned, and I was much more scared to go into the other rooms afterwards.

I don't play many horror games...but i would either choose going into the Dunwich Building in Fallout 3 (which is haunted) or playing Minecraft survival!

I've seen plenty of gamers claiming Ravenholm felt like a chore, but I had to take a break due to shivering shortly after the appearance of fast zombies. I would definitely not make it through something like Amnesia with clean pants.

Funny thing is, I really enjoy reading horror (I love Lovecraft... *rimshot*) without being particularly scared. It feels a lot different when you're the one in control.

First time I played Resident Evil on PS1 where the cerberus jumps through the window.

Honorable mention: When Psycho Mantis shut off my game. HIDEO (not really scary, more of a tense WTF moment)

Games can be really great sometimes hahaha

"Twinkle Twinkle Little Star,

How I wonder what you are.

Up above the world so high,

Like a diamond in the sky..."

When you find all the bodies of civilians lined up and shot in the back of their head in DS1 and you hear that subtly playing in the background...I really just wanted to stop playing. It was a "Gettin' the FUCK out of here." moment.

I think it was FEAR one... There's one point where you get on this ladder, and as you start to go down, you see this old man standing at the top where you just were. Your brain automatically assumes that that was their attempt to scare you.

IT WASN'T.

I think anyone who's played the game remembers this part, and heaven forbid I spoil it for anyone else ;D

Playing the Human Missions on AVP 1 on the PC. The sounds, lack of lights, and either night vision or a 180 deg motion detector had me keyed up the whole time. Other games have scared me, but nothing has kept me keyed up for the whole game like that.

Just got there today, actually. That was fucking chilling, so yeah, my vote goes to that.

The ending to Dead Space

Go ahead and say its cliche that it gives one last scare but its THE WAY it does it.
Have you played Dead Space 2? The ending of it was doubly awesome if you've played the 1st one

OT: Any of the fake scares, my favourite one is in the nursery in Dead Space 2 when a smiley cardboard sun falls right in front of you.
