For me it's gotta be Avenge Sevenfold's "A Little Piece of Heaven". Song kicks all sorts of ass, has a very unique sound and is about murdering your girlfriend and fucking her corpse. Oy

We've all had songs where the lyrics weren't clear but we loved them anyway. Half the fun of listening to people sing their own favorite songs is listening to them mangle the lyrics or make up ones to fill the gaps.

One of my absolute favorites songs from childhood was Harry Chapin's "Cat's in the Cradle".

I loved the music and the chorus was right up there with my understanding of "3 Blind Mice" and other songs of similar cerebral challenging caliber.

But when I came across the song years and years later I was old enough to listen to the lyrics--and was AGHAST!!!

The happy song from my childhood was about absentee parenting and wasted time, now regretted. And since my father died it makes me regret not having more time together, so I can't listen to it without getting melancholy.

What songs fell from your favorite's list when you learned the lyrics?

This song is one of my favorites, the chorus is so catchy
OT: the only song i can think of the horse with no name. Once i learned it was about drugs i gave it up....then a few years later picked it back up again lol
Really? I always thought it was about some dude traveling through the desert. What made you think it was about drugs? Or rather, what parts of the lyrics made you think that? Any specific lines?

I'm not easily offended or unsettled, so I'm having a hard time thinking of this...probably "Every Breath You Take" by The Police. Mostly because I heard it a lot in my youth and never analyzed the words or anything. I'm sure most of you know what I'm talking about.
Actually, if you take the lyrics at face value, it definitely sounds like a stalker song. However, it's actually less "I'm stalking you, watching you; you will be mine" and more "We had something, and you used me. Your memories of me will hang over you; I will be your conscience, watching all the terrible things you're doing to your other lovers and making you feel guilty". Though, I can definitely see why you thought that...

OT: You want a song that really makes you feel like a creepy creeper? Check it: I like the artist bleedman and his drawings of popular characters. I especially like how he draws the Powerpuff Girls: not just a bit older, but with ears, noses, fingers and smaller eyes. Granted, I still like they're original designs, but I also like his art style: very anime-esque.

Anyways, while I was working one day, I hear a popluar song come on the radio, and my mind being as it is, I imagine what it would look like if bleedman's PPGirls played and danced to that song. "Heck, if it gets turned into a full-fledged Youtube vid, it could be a big hit!", I thought. So, I started listening a bit closer, just in case I was able to catch it all and tell bleedman about it.

The song? "My Sharona" by The Knack.

..........................Yeah, I know. Needless to say, sudden images of bleedman's PPGirls doing suggestive dances start flooding my mind, and I feel like a disgusting, pedophilic creep. I can barely listen to that song any more. >.<

I actually had the oposite reaction with this song

at first I thourght it was just the usual gangsta strick to a nice track...then I realised through the incredibly clever wordplay it was actualy about alchohol/drugs/AID's

I can honestly say that's never happened to me and I find it rather peculiar that it's happened to anyone else.

Same thing happened with me and a lot of Eminem songs. I used to think all rap was blanket shit, but Eminem employs some of the cleverest wordplay I've ever heard.

I tend not to care what the lyrics are as long as I enjoy the song. Good lyrics can enhance my enjoyment, but bad ones will not make me stop liking it.

I don't like most of the lyrics in Iced Earth's The Glorious Burden. It's just a bit to patriotic for me.

Meh. I listen to death and black metal, and the bands I like generally have interesting lyrics to them.

Other people don't think so though. When I tell them the guy just belted out stuff like:

"The circle of bones has been sealed,
prepare for these most ancient rites.
Three virgin cunts, arrested by chains,
Gut them like pigs, let their filthy blood drain."

It tends to make them not want to know the rest lol.
Hmm... I'm now curious about the rest of that song you've quoted... ;)

On Topic:

Uhh... I've not had a song that I've stopped listening to after learning the lyrics (When I listen to songs like "Vomited Anal Tract" by Carcass it's hardly surprising)

Though there are songs that I liked more when learning the lyrics, which includes most Rammstein songs, I have to translate since I'm not fluent in german and also various Hardcore Punk bands whom don't often make their vocals clear.

It's not too bad when watching the video though, since the girlfriend becomes a zombie, kills the guy and then then they both get married as zombies (Which is interesting as he killed her because she said no when he proposed...)

Vocaloids always have wierd lyrics, but that is why it is so different from mainstream music.

"Nanjo Aya ni narenkute" is quite morbid...

Carcass is good stuff.

Here's the rest of that song.

Nightwish's 'Passion and the Opera' is about a nymphomaniacal woman relating her sex addiction to a classical tragic theater piece. Gggguuuuuaaaaaaagggggh.

I find most songs have pretty abysmal lyrics, of course there is some exceptions, but I usually try to ignore the words and just enjoy the music.
I am pretty sure that is why I like J-pop, I don't understand a word of it, so I can't complain about the lyrics sucking :p

Dance Inside, by the All American Rejects. I listened to it a lot when I was younger, and it wasn't until my teenage years that I understood the possible sexual interpretation of the lyrics. It certainly explains some of the weird looks I got while listening to it XD

Not my story, but a friend of mines father used to sing "Where, oh where could my baby be?" when playing hide-and-seek with her when she was only a little girl.

It was years later she heard the song 'Last Kiss' by Pearl Jam and realised her father was singing part of the chorus of a song about a young boy helplessly watching the girl he loves die in his arms from a car crash he was responsible for.

Good times.

After I knew that, I loved the song. It's hilarious how Maximum The Hormone would take advantage of their fans that can't speak Japanese.

Anyways, I've never had a song become bad after I heard the lyrics, although I was kinda surprised Jeremy by Pearl Jam was about a kid committing suicide, I always thought it was about a special needs kid who has neglectful/abusive parents or something.
