I hear Petroglyph is pretty much them reborn. Universe at War was pretty good, but never really caught on since it used GFWL and was released when Microsoft thought people would actually pay for that piece of shit "service".

It was pretty much "War of the worlds Vs. iPod robots Vs. generic Ancients race" (Deliberately- the War of the Worlds race was pretty much Saturday morning cartoon villains. ) Oh, and humans got their asses kicked constantly, just like what would happen if we were invaded by an advanced alien race.
