I'm stuck in a boring lecture right now and one of the things I like doing is browsing through forums, news sites, game/tech/music reviews and basically other information. I'll write information as it comes up on the screen and I'll pay attention is powerpoint-less lectures but these 3 hour lectures from 7-10pm can go on forever (depending on the prof).

So, fellow Escapists, what do you do in lecture?

Daydream. I'm usually too tired to pay attention during a lecture. Even when I am fully awake, the lecture usually doesn't interest me so I just resort to daydreaming. Unintentionally of course. I find it difficult to stay focus on a topic that doesn't interest me in the slightess.

When they're boring I bring a graphic novel and read it secretly. My best college memory is one morning when I read Love and Rockets and ate pastries during a lecture, even though the comics-reading was probably not allowed and the pastries were explicitly forbidden. Those were the days...

For me, trying to stay awake is the main occupation. Given that the Science & Materials and Maths & Mechanics modules of my course so far have covered nothing I didn't study at A-level, and most of my lectures are in the morning, this can be quite a challenge. I actually looked over my notes from one of my lectures last week and the handwriting was reduced to a load of squiggly lines. If I'm awake enough, I'm either daydreaming, or doodling.

I either take notes or daydream. The teachers at my school tend to notice that you're fucking around on your computer.

I'm drawing maps for new fantasy settings or writing something about new fantasy settings.

If you've got a smartphone play Temple Run. It's what I used to do in my lectures, that and browse the internet.

Incidentally I dropped out of uni :p

I've been known to play games during lectures. Recently I've been playing a little Indie game called Jasper's Journeys during the boring ones, since it runs well in a window and is really easy to minimize when the professor puts up a new slide/stops rambling and starts saying something important. I also surf the web on occasion.

Side note, I recommend Jasper's Journeys. I'm not sure where you can get it, since I got it in an indie bundle ages ago, but if you remember the old Shareware game Hocus Pocus, it's a lot like that, just more recent and made for windows instead of DOS.

Edit: Should point out, this is on my laptop, which I use for note taking. That's why being able to minimize the game easily is important -- I can switch over to One Note when I have something worth writing down.

I generally use the time to write some outlines to the games and stories that I'm thinking of at the moment.
Makes it looks like you're taking notes when you aren't. Teachers are too adapt at telling when you are screwing around on electronics these days.

Doodle, so much doodling...

Especially drawing loads of little tiny triangles all connected to each other which tend to look like some crazy ass rocks by the end of my lecture...

I'll be honest guys it's a minor miracle I have got to my final year.

Pay attention and take notes best I can, but my mind tends to wander...

Can't wait for the semester to end, I'm way burned out. :p

Most of my courses have pretty small class sizes and pertain to my major, so I usually pay fairly close attention and do some note taking. Also, some of those classes require you to play an active part in the class, especially in my music theory lab (which is focused on ear training/sightsinging), my ensembles, and my private lessons. I enjoy being active in those classes though, so it's not really an issue.

Other than that, I take notes from my computer in my one gen-Ed, and sometimes I start to wander to different online forums and whatnot, taking notes every now and then.
