Halo 3: ODST. the track Rain is so epic and sad in an sense that evokes doom. it really brings out the mood of the game, and not a lot of game soundtracks do that quite as well as Martin O'donnel can. the classic halo theme makes the chief look like a badass, which is what martin and the rest of the crew want in the game. but in odst, you are at wits end, left to die, almost no chance of survival (but you make it out alive, so you're like the A-team) the entire city around you, once the greatest city on earth, is utterly destroyed, shrouded in mystery (audio files), enemies everywhere, and you are all alone, and Rain really brings that out in the game.

also, from Halo: Reach, BRILLIANT. i haven't listened to everything that's been released, but this is the longest one which means it's probably the title screen song. martin like allusion between his music and the game, so here's the game; you're a fire and forget prototype solider who no one gives a damn about and you're on a military stronghold planet that is humanity's greatest symbol of security and comfort and in the end, it is completely destroyed with you on it. so the mood; eminent doom, just like the direction of the franchise. so far, it really makes me feel sad in a gloomy way and at the same time there is this epic doom approaching me FAST and it's slowly taking over. but then at the very end of the song, there is the uplift that makes me feel like there's still this last glimmer of hope left.

these are two of the greatest peices of video game music i have ever heard, plus unforgotten also by martin o' donnel. if anyone tries to flame me and say "no, this here song from this anime game is the greatest!" then i will laugh in your face at the pure ameteur you display in your taste of music.

Dang you x-x...I've been trying to remember that song in my head when I've been working and now its stuck there..first the drawing, now this...I think you are subliminally trying to make me play it again...and its working..
If you do, just...make sure to skip the sex scenes, okay?

And don't look at that route summary I gave you when you gave up. It was only Akiha's and Hisui's routes, not Kohaku's or the epilogue, but still.
If I do, I'll probably install that one Mirrormoon patch to it that takes it off. Also, can the other sides really top Arcuied and Ciel's story, especially Ciel's(I thought it was brilliant)?

Back on track though...hmm..I'm tied between Tatsunoko vs Capcom's intro/title music..since I can't find the real title, I'm counting the intro

and the Sonic Unleashed title screen

Halo 3 actually gets pretty good once you let it run for a bit. I love the orchestral parts that slowly build in as it goes.... although eventually it does go to cutscenes :(

Edit: oh my god how could I forget... Deus Ex...
by the way Deus Ex Human Revolution better have this song or I'm gonna RAGE...
I picked up Deus Ex on Steam this week, and tried it yesterday, and when I heard the theme... it was really epic. :p Only tested the game out so far, but the tutorial, and a bit of the first mission got me excited.

I love the Duke Nukem 3D theme, which is also the menu music.

I honestly believe they do, though since they certainly evoke a different feel, I can't be sure you'll agree. They're much more subtle. The Near Side routes were really Arcueid's and Ciel's stories, the Far Side is the "main" story, if you will, of the Tohno family. They're still absolutely worth reading, and I most frequently encourage people to at least play up to Hisui's endings...because I'm absolutely certain that if they do, they'll be very likely to need to play Kohaku's route.

I will admit, though, two of the most emotional moments in the game to me were in Ciel's route; the "how can you not hate me" scene made me cry harder than any other moment, and the "berserk Arcueid" scene was more...genuinely terrifying than any other. The Far Side routes do manage, I think, for "most shocking" and "happiest" moments, though.

And you really have to read the epilogue. It's short, it's bittersweet, but it's the perfect closure. I'm honestly feeling odd just recalling it right now.

I might have been ninja'd, but I don't care.
PREY wasn't the "perfect" game, but it was generally unique and had kickass music. I mean, damn. Listen to this:

I loved this song's placement so much that I actually restarted my game a few times just to hear it. It was honestly one of the best placements of a mainstream song in a video game in a while.

Yeah I love the Elfen Lied opening too but I think the question was directed more towards games with title screens...
