Figure a thread dedicated to highlighting gaping holes in video game stories... while perhaps finding answers to perceived plot holes.

I'm currently watching Black Ops on YouTube to check out the story and there's something that jumps out at me at about the midway point.

So, if the entire game is about you remembering various missions while being interrogated... ummm, how exactly are you remembering the events of *OTHER* people? The demo has you seeing through the eyes of a spy plane pilot.

And massive Heavy Rain spoilers.

Is there any explanation as to why Ethan's mysterious blackout suddenly stopped after his son was kidnapped... and to the various suspicious circumstances surrounding him waking up soaking wet seeing the faces of drowning children?

And, why the Hell was Scott investigating the rich kid's involvement in the case, even going so far as to put his life on the line to get information from the father.

I'm going to stick with my "Why did Shepherd kill Ghost/Roach" plothole, because, despite being answer, I find the answer incredibly stupid.

You gave my answer, OP.

And there was an explanation intended, but it was so stupid that they cut it out and decided not to go with it. The answer was going to be that

Shelby and Ethan formed a psychic link when Jason got hit by the car through some contrived crap that makes no sense so that Ethan's blackouts occurred whenever Shelby's 'Origami Killer' side came out, and Ethan would always see what happened through his eyes

So yes the plothole actually improves the plot.

Ok, I know this is video game plot holes, but I'm just going to have to hijack this for a moment and turn to book/movie plot holes.

Harry Potter: Why don't they ever use the Time Turner to fix stuff?

Because then you'd eliminate the reason you ever needed to use the Time Turner and create a paradox.

How did Executive Chairman Drek transport the components of other planets to the Veldin system in Ratchet & Clank?

No, they used it to go back and fix all their problems, but they only did it once.

No, they used it to go back and fix all their problems, but they only did it once.
Only in a way that created a stable time loop though, because their past-selves are still motivated to go back and redo what happened because as far as their past-selves know nothing has been fixed. If they went back in time to like kill Voldemort or something, that would eliminate their reason for ever needing to use the Time Turner in the first place.

I'm not even a Harry Potter fan; this is just standard Time Travel logic.

Why can you use a (phoenix down,Restoration spell, etc...) in battle, but when they die in a cut scene you can't bring them back?

I know this is a film but...

Avatar - Nuke the bastards from space, or actually employ good tactics to kill the Na'vi OR MAYBE WIN THEIR HEARTS AND MINDS

Now, Fo3: Why didn't Li get the BoS to come and join in the happy 'restart the purifier' party when James got back, if they knew what to do to fix it then the BoS would be glad to help them.

CoD BlOps: How exactly did Reznov, a not particularily genius foot soldier manage to twist and manipulate the programming in Alex Mason? And why did this cause Mason to see him everywhere?

Cut-scene Dante is always infinitely stronger than Game-play Dante.

Not really a plot, but it's hysterical.

LoZ OoT: Considering the sages had the power to weaken and kill Ganon in his fully empowered form at the end, why did they seal themselves in the Sacred Realm along with Link (while Ganondorf was still just some magic-wielding normal dude, no less) while he fucked with Hyrule for seven goddamn years? Couldn't they have beaten him when he still didn't have the Triforce's power?

In Metal Gear Solid 2, Liquid Snake says, that Big Boss was "In his late sixties when they made his clones."
But in Peace Walker, it is officially revealed that Big Boss is 39 years old in 1974, which means he was actually 37 when they made his clones.
The only way to explain this is that Liquid (or Ocelot) completely sucks at math.

Well, those missions in Black Ops you're not really Alex Mason (the one being interrogated) but Jason Hudson, Alex's CIA handler... So not all missions go through the same eyes.

As for Heavy Rain...
The Ethan one was previously explained on the thread, so I'm not going to address to it. :p

And Scott was investigating the rich kid's involvement because he was a copycat, and no self-respecting killer wants their rep ruined by an amateur. And then he was pissed off because they tried to kill him and Lauren

For FO:3 I think that the BoS wasn't very trusting on that Project Purity would work, so the gave no support and no tech...
It's only when the Enclave has it that THEY want it... just like children.

Reznov didn't strike to me as a not particulary genius soldier... he did indeed planned the whole "Escape from Vorkuta" plan. And...
he has much greater impact on Alex Mason because they were both soldiers "betrayed" by their own countries and Alex seemed to trust Reznov like a brother. And for the magical appearances of Reznov might be related to PTSD...or just for gameplay's sake...and to keep it a miystery until the very end (for me they failed at that:p)

Better yet, how is it that he can survive as a chew toy for zombie while everyone else mutates with the slightest scratch.
