There are some very good Final Fantasy scores, and I'd take the SNES versions to be top of the list. X and X-2 have their moments as well, though. For several years I used FFX-2's title music as my morning alarm. It works shockingly well for that.

I think the single best full soundtrack for me, though, goes to Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. I adore Castlevania music overall, and SotN's is hands-down the best as far as I'm concerned. Including the Saturn remixes, which include the single best variation of Vampire Killer ever made. (I swear, someday I want to be in charge of the stadium PA system for a big football game and use that as the background music bed for player introductions. It would rawk.)

KotOR 2's epic songs (you know which ones)
Portal: Still alive
Portal 2: Science is fun
Assassin Creed and AC: Brotherhood's chase themes.

But the best one EVER, OF ALL TIME:

LoZ: Majoras Mask, Song of Healing.

/end thread. That song is the best one ever.

Any soundtrack done by Nobou Uematsu. Particularly VI/VII/VIII/IX (Boss theme/One winged angel/Laguna's battle theme/Dark messenger)
The Metal Gear Solid soundtracks. (Snake Eater)

Silent Hill soundtracks are also excellent (Room of Angel/Promise/Promise - Reprise/Silent Hill theme)

I dig the infamous soundtrack too. My friend hates it. He says it's like listening to the Decepticons rape household appliances in Tom Waits' garage.

Thank you for reminding me of Mother 3's simply orgasmic soundtrack. Now I must spend the next hour or so on Youtube.

Too many favorite OSTs to name, but Chrono Cross and Kingdom Hearts readily spring to mind.

Oh, I love game soundtracks! There are so many great tunes among them.
I love almost every Castlevania Soundtrack, I love the Diablo soundtracks, also the Withcer's soundtrack is amazing (I'm kind of dissapointed of the OST of Assasins of Kings - not that good, except 3-4 tracks), I also love a lot of tracks of the Final Fantasy games, especially the Final Fantasy IV Celtic Moon - I love every bit of this one. And last, but definetely not least - Guilty Gear - absolutely amazing! I think these are all of my favs, I have a lot of other faves, but they are from one to three tracks per GOST, so I won't be mentioning them. ^^

To me nothing beats Shadow of the Colossus, the soundtrack is just magical.
Took a while for someone to mention it. I was getting slightly distraught. SotC really does have the most sublime soundtrack in any game.

Final Fantasy IX.

As far as I'm concerned, it's the "Conan the Barbarian" of video game soundtracks.

Lately, the Red Dead Redemption soundtrack strikes me as one of the best ones ever. Nearly every single song from the game comes off as perfectly composed to fit exactly what was going on at the moment. From those faroff Ennio-ish whistles when roaming the countryside by yourself, to those quiet and solemn mariachi trumpets when walking around the sunburnt towns in Mexico, it was all just. Perfect.

^Right around 1:25 is when the magic begins.

And then of course there's the "Far Away" segment upon entering mexico. Probably the most utterly memorable moments I've ever experienced in a game.

Although it's a generalization to say I love it when a game's music matches the mood of the events, some soundtrack songs stick out as doing it really goddamned good.

^I first played RE5 on my PC with my headphones on. So when that son-of-a-***** executioner with his dozens of majini goons appeared and began chasing me and my friend all around that village square, it all really made me shit bricks. Probably my most favorite theme of the game and really turns the suspense up even more.

^Another song in Dragon Age:Origins had the pleasure of listening to with my headphones on. First heard it when I fought Kolgrim, and honestly I felt the music made the fight even more crazy awesome! After wiping a few times and finally killing that bastard, I preserved my save prior to fighting him (since I loved both the fight and the music) But I think it really fit the mood when fighting the Broodmother. It really magnified her complete horribleness and my disgust when watching her puke acid all over my party members.

^Anyone who's played Oddworld should share my fondness of the Soundtrack. It's one of those games where the Soundtrack feels like a part of the game world itself. Ellen Meijers did an excellent job capturing that oddworld "feel" with every soundtrack, filling them with ambience you'd hear from the world itself. The chirping of Scrabs in the Mudanchee Vaults, and the metallic rumbling noises of the FeeCo. Depot. for such an old game, it's one of the first I remember that took the Soundtrack as such an integral part of gameplay. It even alerted you when you got the attention of a sadistic Slig.

Videogame soundtracks are really important to me, and I consider them to be one of the most important parts of any game. So I really appreciate it when any developer makes the effort to create a wonderful soundtrack to accompany their game.

EDIT: wtf... why do none of these videos work ;[ Removed the embeds and put links instead.

Assassin's Creed II and Brotherhood are two of my favourite's (can't pick one!)

Stand out tracks
Earth and Flight Over Venice, from AC II &
Villa Under Attack and Desmond Miles from AC Brotherhood.
Thanks for bringing it to my attention :)
pleasure!

I really enjoy how much attention is now lavished on game soundtracks, they really can make a good game great! (and a good game bad if the soundtrack is poor)

VVVVVV and Super Meat Boy both have awesome soundtracks, but Portal 2's creepy, ominous, ambient techno definitely warrants a mention too.

Oh yes, and Final Fantasy IV (Playing it on an emulator! woo!)
