The Portal Gun.
The "Striker" from Resident Evil 4 (It's a shotgun in the shape of a mini tommy-gun).
The Halo series Rocket Launcher.
The "Excalibur" from "Golden Sun: The Lost Age".

That's all I can think of from the top of my head.

Ah, the loveliness of Excalibur... that truly was an awesome weapon. That and the Sol Blade, because nothing quite says "die" like dropping the sun on someone.

But I have to say, one of my favourites lies on Deus Ex 2. The plasma blade(or dragon tooth) plus the super-speed and cloak upgrades; switch them on, draw the weapon, and you can wreak a hell of a lot of havoc.

Biorifle (UT2k4 one)
-other stuff-
That's actually my least favorite iteration. It's basically the same as the UT2003 version but watered down (flies slower and does less damage). In UT2k3 it went fast enough that you could actually shoot somebody out of the air with it. The original UT version did a shiatload of damage, but it was SO slow, with UT's fast movement it was impossible to hit anyone. Like blowing bubbles at them lol.

Anyways the reason I quoted this is to ask if you've played UT3? I'm guessing not... the new biorifle is awesome! Everybody loves it now.

MrCIA - yeah, we had this thread like.... two weeks ago. It's only made it to page 3 by now heh. And I still love the shock rifle, Worms baseball bat, and... I forget what else. :p

...And of course, the classic example: The Red9 in Resident Evil 4.
Anyone who ever played RE4 can, and will, attest: It is the best handgun. If you're not doing a base unupgraded handgun only run through, you WILL get this beast. It WILL save your life, and save you ammo...
Bullspit. The Blacktail was a delight to handle, was way more accurate, looked better, sounded better, and it's special upgrade rocked ass.

BFG9000. Nothing says destruction like a blob of green coming your way. (And if someone mentions that blue thing that they called the BFG in the Doom movie, I will kill them)

Also I'd go with the nuke in Starcraft. Nothing like watching a player scramble to find the red dot of doom raining destruction onto his poor units.

Here are my favorite game weapons:

* The Spitfire Mk.VII's flame thrower-bomb from Strikers 1945
* The flame weapon in Mystic Defender
* The flame thrower in Turok Evolution (more like psychadelic streamer of technocolor firey death)
* The flame thrower in Army Men 3D
* The flame thrower from Return to Castle Wolfenstein

...wait, what? It 'rocked ass'? Do you mean 'Sucked ass'? Cause I can see that.
Let's compare special upgrades of ALL Handguns you find the first run through.

Base handgun: Five times as likely as normal to insta-kill someone with a headshot.
Punisher: Go through FIVE opponents.
Red9: Adds 1.5 damage per shot(That is ONE. AND. A. HALF normal handgun shot of added damage, PER HANDGUN SHOT!)
Blacktail: ....adds 0.4 damage per shot, for a total damage when fully upgraded of... 0.1 lower than the second-to-fully upgraded Red9.

If you want to conserve ammo, there is NO weapon like the Red9. When fully upgraded, the damage is higher than that of the base shotgun.

Not only is the Red9 cheaper, more accurate (meaning the laser sight does not bob around as much) and more damaging, it is also more unique (all other handguns act and look pretty much identical, the Red9 being the only one sporting a stock and a unique reloading animation). The blacktail lets you move around in a circle faster, yes. But if you really need to aim around that fast, 99 times out of a hundred, you're better 180-turning and using the knife. And you shouldn't have gotten your sorry self surrounded.

I could go on, believe me, I could. But it's (very) off-topic to do so.

In short, for being cheaper than the blacktail, more accurate (handy bonus, that), more damaging per shot (that is the most important factor of a handgun by far, right here), AND stylistically much cooler since the blacktail is exactly like the other handguns in terms of looks and animations...
The Red9 is not only a plain better weapon, it's also a cooler one.

Here's a few new ones:

Super Nova (from Ratchet and Clank Deadlocked): When I fully upgraded that thing, I was hooked on single player death matches for weeks. The whole instant obliteration thing really is quite fun.

BFG: Well, who doesn't like it?

InstaGib Blaster (from UT2k4): Along with causing the most pleasing deaths ever, it looks cool.

Whomper: Okay, it's really not my fav weapon from this game, considering all the mods and stuff, but probably my fav standard weapon. Kudos to anyone who can name the game its from.

Does the Portal device count as a weapon? I mean, you use it against the gun turrets.
They say the pen is mightier then the sword, and a sword is sure as hell a weapon, and if the pen is stronger? Then i think a gravity gun counts as a weapon, hell even a potatochip is a weapon if we follow my facts... :>

Handcannon (Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles)- Very little ammo, but ridiculously powerful. Once I was fighting the Bat boss and I reduced his health to 3/4. Then I switched to the Handcannon. Boom. Headshot. DEAD. It's worth noting that bosses can easily withstand several close-range shotgun blasts.

Frost Splasher (Mega Man X5) - Whenever you do an air dash, you're protected by a shield that makes you damage enemies by touching them instead of the other way around. Mucho fun, especially with the Hyper Dash enhancement.

Storm Tornado (Mega Man X) - Creates a long wind tunnel that goes through enemies. Moves slowly at first, and hits multiple times depending on the enemy's size. So it basically kills anything it touches.

Z-Saber (Mega Man X4) The Z-Saber itself is a cool weapon, but what makes it awesome is the moves you get when you defeat bosses. When you've defeated all the bosses, you can destroy enemy shots, do a flaming uppercut slash, a longer ranged lightning stab, a downward ice thrust, and a somersaulting slash in mid air, as well as some moves that don't actually use the sword itself.

Magnet Mine (Mega Man X2) - A bomb that moves slowly across the screen. Its slow horizontal movement is a good thing because you can more easily contol it's up/down movements that way. Also, it falls into the "multiple hit, kills most enemies" category with Storm Tornado.

Inflator (Turok Rage Wars) - I think the name speaks for itself. A fully charged shot is pretty much the equivalent of shoving 500 Big Macs down your enemy's throat.

Pistol (Halo) - Halo was the first (and only, so far) game that I've played where the pistol wasn't an underpowered pile of crap. Sure, it was a bit on the overpowered side, but half of the weapons in the game can kill you in one hit, in certain circumstances (Sniper - Headshot, Rocket Launcher - direct or near direct impact, Shotgun - point blank, Plasma Grenade - sticking)

Semi Auto Rifle (Resident Evil 4) - A sniper rifle that has a fast firing rate, good damage and a good ammo capacity. Also pierces through multiple enemies. The best overall weapon in the game, good for bosses and regular enemies alike. Really useful in the minigame if there are no enemies nearby and you need to kill an enemy quickly before your bonus runs out.

Mine Thrower (Resident Evil 4) - Like the sniper, except instead of bullets, it shoots darts that explode after a short time.

Exploding Crossbow Bolts (Van Helsing) - Pretty self explanatory. Does good damage, and you could fire about 5-6 shots before the ammo ran out. But in that game, secondary ammo for your weapons would slowly recharge, so you got plenty of opportunity to use it.

Grapple Gun (Van Helsing) - Grapple walls, pull yourself towards them. Grapple enemies, pull themself towards you, followed by a rising uppercut slash. One moment, an enemy's throwing projectiles at you from a safe distance. The next, you're in his face, comboing his arse, and the both of you are in the air.

Scimitars (Van Helsing) - A nice alternative to the short ranged Tojo Blades. Too bad you don't get them until near the end of the game.

EDIT: As for the whole Resident Evil 4 pistol debate, I myself went with the Punisher. Why? I just used pistols to set up for Roundhouses and Suplexes, so damage from the pistol itself was kind of useless for me. Being able to shoot through those pesky shields was what made me choose the punisher over the other weapons.
