I'm not a native English speaker (I'm from Spain) so my perception is a little bit different. I might consider some voice acting better or worse than they actually are (just the same as it happens to you people with japanese voice acting), but still I'm a voice acting fan in ANY language, whether it is the original or not (the quality is what matters to me), so I always enjoy them. There has been games that I have played several times, changing the voice language.
In any case my favourite English-speaking voice actors would be:
- David Hayter: 'nuff said.
- Yuri Lowenthal: Awesome Prince of Persia. Even though I first heard him in "Xenosaga III" as Kevin Winnicot. However he totally blew my mind with his double role in "Tales of the Abyss".
- Nolan North: Nathan Drake wouldn't be the same (in English) without him. And a lot of other characters too.
- Cam Clarke: Tons of games. Sometimes awesome, other times not so awesome. But he always gets the job done. Of course, Liquid Snake is the one I remember the most, but there were other games where his voice made a difference, like "Eternal Darkness".
- Crispin Freeman: Albedo. Best Psycho Ever! I had the pleasure of meeting him in his conferences in Japan Conection in Frankfurt a month ago and the guy is awesome in person too. Every time that I recognize his voice I know a great performance is on its way.
- Johnny Yong Bosch: Another J-RPG master. For me he was Guy Cecile in "Tales of the Abyss". He made a great cool character out of him.
- Kirk Thorton: Captain Matthews in "Xenosaga" and Jade Curtiss in "Tales of the Abyss". Man, this guy can achive some cool tones!
- Troy Baker: For "Tales of Vesperia", not the "Final Fantasy XIII" utter crap. Yuri Lowenthal is the best J-RPG lead character in YEARS, and Baker's awesome performance is one of the main reasons. So sad that most people don't know anything about this character.
Now we go with actresses:
- Jennifer Hale: More or less the same as Cam Clarke, even though she bullseyes more often. Emma Emmerich, Sheena Fujibayashi, Commander Shepard (female), and hell of a long etc.
- Claudia Black: I haven't played "Dragon Age" yet, but she made a great job in "Uncharted 2".
- Laura Bailey: Probably the best J-RPG actress right now.
- Heather Hogan: Colette in "Tales of Symphonia". Now THAT is how you adapt the japanese "kawaii" tone in English, and not making the actress to force her poor voice so she sounds like they pulled her vocal strings with pliers.
- Bridget Hoffman: KOS-MOS in the first and third episodes of "Xenosaga". To be precise, her triple performance in "Xenosaga III". I still have to see someone who tops such a wonderful job! Too bad she doesn't appear more often.
BTW, one last question: Anyone knows the name of Bayonetta's voice actress?
There were other actors and actresses, but I don't remember their names right now. Maybe I'll post them later.
PS: As I said, I'm not a native English speaker, so I'm sorry if I make mistakes while writting.
