Why Cyanide and Happiness, of course.
XKCD and Stolen Pixels, also.

Don't ask me. It was mostly a comedy comic, but a couple years ago the story took kind of a tragic turn and began to involve some more dramatic elements (though it didn't lose the comedy completely, just added a dramatic element to the story). People went kind of crazy over it. I personally don't understand that, but... whatever.
I hate to sound like a broken record, but maybe it was because the story was so out of place in a damn gaming comic, that it made it sort of disrespectful to the problem.
And, you know, it was also really unpleasant - and shock value is not exactly what gaming comics are famous for.

None of them are particularly game related but:

"Gunnerkrigg Court" by Tom Siddell is concentrated awesome. Only slightly less awesome (because they don't involve, for the most part, hilariously sentient robots, demon foxes possessing stuffed toys, or scary corporations disguised as schools) are "Supernormal Step" and "Terra" (you get a url for the last because the name is so generic: http://www.terra-comic.com/wordpress/ ).

Oh and if you love a bit of silly samurai anachronism stew: "No Need For Bushido" is really quite awesome too, but they only update every other week on Monday (so they may as well be on hiatus).

All the others that I love have already been mentioned.

The comic always had an accompanying story to it, it just never got quite that intense. But it did get me connected to the characters and caring about what happened long before that development actually happened, so yes, it was out of place, but in a good way. Yes, it was unpleasant, but a good story can't be told without a bit of unpleasantness. I, for one, applauded him for taking such a bold leap and going that far to take his story seriously. Just because it's a gaming comic doesn't mean it can't take itself seriously.

I disagree.
"Out of place" can't exactly be good, especially here.
It was a bold leap, sure, but not all of them are applause-worthy. That's why I consider this "artistic suicide".
If he wanted to start writing serious stuff, he should've branched out with a new series.
The shit that he has pulled was so out-of-place, so utterly pretentious and "take me seriously now - I'm a dramuh writer" ridden that I can't really see how anyone could support him after that.
If he wanted to be taken seriously, this is about the worst route he could've taken.

Why, I think that it does.
The type of comic that Buckley established was your standard "last-picture punchline and relevance" type. I can't understand what part of this can even suggest that there'll be a story concerning misscariage. And since there is, that's disrespectful at the very least.

I love VGCats, especially when it was at its peak (comics 150-200 roughly).
The art is just... I can't express how great it is to me. Every time I visit his site, it makes me want to pick up a pencil and draw. And so I do.

Other favourites are QC (which I read backwards. Weird, I know, but I get much more enjoyment that way) and Penny Arcade. XKCD, on the other hand, used to be a favourite, but has gotten stale lately.

The ones I'm currently up to date with and following are:

Twokinds http://www.2kinds.com
Flipside http://www.flipsidecomics.com
Goblins http://goblins.keenspot.com
Cyanide & Happiness http://www.explosm.net/
XKCD http://www.xkcd.com
Ctrl+Alt+Del http://www.cad-comic.com/cad
Least I Could Do http://www.leasticoulddo.com
Looking For Group http://www.lfgcomic.com/page/latest
Dungeons & Denizens http://www.dungeond.com/
Slightly Damned http://www.raizap.com/sdamned
Questionable Content http://questionablecontent.net

Yeah, I'm not gonna start explaining what they're all about since They're pretty many, but I can basically explain one of them. Goblins is awesome, go read it if you haven't. It's about a band of goblins in a D&D like world. And they sorta figure out how to become adventurers pretty soon and stuff. It's cool and read if you're the least interested in that kind of setting, it's awesome.

Dinosaur Comics is far and away my favourite webcomic although I don't hear too much love for it :( (http://dinosaurcomics.com/)

xkcd rates an honourable mention although I find the jokes these days gratuitous, unfunny and repetitive (and seeing as I generally get them all too it's not as if it's too "highbrow" or anything)...

Andrew Hussie is a god.
Ah, good, someone beat me to it.
Without Andrew Hussie, the last few months of my life would have been a lot less interesting.
