Zombies Ate My Neighbors on the SNES.
Closely followed by Dead Rising.
:)
I was worried Zombies Ate My Neighbors wasn't going to show up. I'm relieved, good sir.

You know, I never got the chance to play that one.

You really must. It's great fun, and not just a zombie game; it lampoons all sorts of monsters.

Resident Evil 2 is the game that made me fall in love with the re-death of the undead.
Resident Evil 4 was the game that got me hooked.

I'm starting to like Resident Evil 5 as well.

Does Half life count? if not L4D
I was thinking of listing that too, but I'm assuming the OP wants a list of games that are solely based around the idea of zombies.

Left 4 Dead is amazing. To bad it's short and has no story...
Short, in terms of number of actual campaigns? Yes, though versus online more than makes up for it in my opinion. No story? Definitely not true. As I've said elsewhere, there's actually a fair bit of story if you just look around for clues and listen to the dialogue. Just because the narrative isn't spoon fed to the player like it is in almost every other game, it doesn't mean it's not there.

Resident Evil 4. And yes, the Ganados count as damn zombies.
Whether a parasite or a virus, if it lowers brain function and makes you want to eat people, it makes you a zombie.
But they wield mini guns, and they want to kill you, not eat you.

If those count as zombies, then I'll pick RE 4 and 5. But for actual zombies, Dead Rising

Strange, me and my friends were just talking about zombies.

I don't know. I'm split between an excellent story and fun ways to kill zombies (Dead Rising), or multiplayer fun, playing as infected and the use of tactics (L4D).

]Dead Rising was good fun.
I'll stick to that or perhaps the original Resident Evil (or rather, the REmake).
I wouldn't touch the REmake even if it was free; CAPCOM need to learn that camp is the only thing keeping people coming back to their lackluster zombie sequels. I have the first three REs for PSX and I wouldn't abandon them for anything. As much as I love Dead Rising, I still love the PSX Resident Evil games more.
Well then good sir I do apologize. I enjoyed the REmake enough as it was my first adventure into the RE world (since I never purchased a PSX). And the graphics, for the time that it was out, were pretty good as well.

Like most people, Left4Dead and Dead Rising. Dead Rising could be my perfect game if only they sorted out the save system and time restraints. High hopes for Dead Rising 2 though.

^^^I love the REmake. A great game.
