That's the question. who's your old time favourite villain an older one like the ghosts from pac-man or newer ones like the gears of war locust? Oh and if you can give a reason why you chose what you chose

Personally mine is sephiroth from the final fantasy series.

Look at my damn avatar.

He is hands down my favorite villian, as he is both hilarious and intimidating at the same time.

Fawful and sephiroth get honorable mentions.

Apart from the usual top nominees (Sephiroth, Kefka, Ganon, etc.) I've always been a fan of Liquid Snake from MGS, and Revolver Ocelot from MGS1/3. NOT Liquid Ocelot, who is completely pants-on-head retarded, but the two characters individually.

Memorable lines, memorable fights, the fact that they just don't die, etc. Good stuff.

I've always loved Scarecrow. Being a Psych major in college I always just kind of felt a weird, twisted, connection with the character (Not that I plan on going on a super villain rampage)

Prepare for a billion "FINAL FANTASY OH MAH GAWD!!!" villians.

I like the Green Goblin. Or, on a completely different scale, Ed Rooney from Ferris Bueller.

Choosing Sephiroth is almost a cliché nowadays but he's still one of my favourite video game villains along with Kain from Soul Reaver. Kain is fantastic because he's not strictly a villain, more of an anti-hero, I guess
Branching out from games, Scarecrow and Two-Face are my favourite Batman villains and Professor Zoom (The Reverse Flash) is also a fantastic classic 'direct-opposite-to-the-hero' villain to The Flash
Majin Buu from Dragon Ball Z is also an absolutely brilliant villain

I'm sure there are loads I'm forgetting... like Kefka! Ahh, Kefka, legend

Yeah, look at his damn avatar! Mofo creeps me out, and makes me want to crush him.

Epic villain.
Trust me, it was even more disturbing in that thread a while back where your avatar was trying to seduce you.

I got fucking nightmares.

If we are limiting us to video games it's probably Glados (Yeah, yeah. Cliché)
She is probably one of the most memorable video game characters of all time. She is brilliantly written and although she seems one-dimensional at first, by the end of the first game she really grows into a complex and "likeable" villain.

I'm not going to go into Portal 2 to not risk spoiling it but I just love how they develope her in that game. Those who have played it know what I mean.

Magneto. I just love the guy. He's different from other villians. I only saw the 90's cartoon, so I don't if anything has changed, but he never really outright hated the X-men. He even worked together with them at occasions. His relationship with Xavier was one of the things I loved the most about him. They never fought unless they had a reason, otherwise they could talk "normally", and even if they had a reason, Xavier would try to talk things through with him. Not only that, but I can see why he does what he does.
I sympathize with him. In fact, I agree with him.
If you had been hated, persecuted for just being you, would you not hate the world? What if someone of great power, someone who's felt your pain, someone like you, would offer you a chance to not only get back at those who made your life hell, but also get the position of power you feel deserve, would you not take it?

TL DR: Magneto is awesome.

Oh, and if the thread was about video game villians I'll justify it by saying that there are X-men games. Therefore he counts as a video game character.

Ovan from the severely unrecognized .hack GU. He starts off mysterious enough, it only becomes evident later on that hes pulling your strings, basically hes master asia, except slightly less "my fists move mountains", and more cryptic dialogue.

Another vote for Liquid and Ocelot, but this time with Revolver Ocelot as well. In his MGS4 form, though.

Yomiel, the antagonist of Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective. He's one of the most understandable and sympathetic villains I've met, even to the extent that you can solidly criticize the "good" characters for the reasons he became so evil.

Also, I can't really say too much about who he is without incurring MAJOR spoilers about the game. But if you truly don't care (you IDIOT YOU'LL RUIN THE GAME) spoiler discussion.

Yomiel is the man in red with the yellow hair. The person you thought you were when you were alive. Furthermore, he's halfway between life and death, meaning he cannot be killed or even harmed by any gun, bomb, or any weapon known to man, and he can "escape" his own body to take control of someone else's.

And from the very beginning, he was a perfectly innocent, kind man who had done nothing wrong...

Lavos from Chrono Trigger. Technically not evil, but just doing what is natural.

I thought Atlus was really cool until he went back to being Frank Fontaine. Atlus was a cool-headed manipulator that you never would've guessed would betray you (unless you read the forums or have learned to NEVER EVER trust anyone in a story). When he changed into Frank Fontaine, he became this idiotic loudmouth whose only goal was to ATTAIN MORE POWAH!!!

Hazama from Blazblue was also pretty cool, not amazing, but still humorous.

Admiral Thrawn from the Star Wars books written by Timothy Zahn was freaking awesome. A villain who you can really sympathize with, but understand that he's crossed the line.

Atris from KoTOR 2 was pretty awesome. People seem to overlook her, but she's one of the few villains that could actually get me pissed off just because of the excellent dialogue.

Also, The Joker from Batman, and Sephiroth. I don't really need to explain that.

Edit: Oh crap, I forgot Darth Vader! That's gotta be some kind of sin, or something...
