They are the most sociable and some of the most intellegent of the corvians, plus, my friends say that I do share a resemblance with them in terms of looks.

It's not interesting or original, but I love the big cats. Just that combination of power, grace and play (all of which I'd prefer to observe from a distance) and the funny way you can see it in the domestic version.

I like snakes and lizards. I always have ever since I was little. My dad is terrified of snakes, so of course, being the brat that I was, the taboo only heightened my curiosity.

What really solidified it though, was in middle school when geckos were all the rage. I wanted a gecko but they were expensive, so my mom convinced me to get a Chinese Water Dragon instead, only $20, live many years, great deal!

...........They grow to be three feet long, require a 100 gallon tank with specific UVA and UVB lighting, a specific temperature range, a specific diet with specific nutrients and a water source they can fit their whole body into, about the size of a cat litter pan.

We of course, didn't know any of this when we bought him and found out only when he started rapidly outgrowing his tank, but I loved him so much that I would be damned if I wasn't going to try. I researched the crap out of taking care of him (I knew it was a him because I also researched the sex differences, which are very apparent in his species).

I learned a great deal about reptiles because of him and my enthusiasm only grew. I like to believe I gave him a good life but I will never buy a Chinese water dragon again and wouldn't recommend anyone with a life ever owning one. If I ever get another reptile, it's going to be a corn snake, much less maintenance.

For the record, he was pretty awesome. I would put him in the bathtub with some lukewarm water and watch him swim like an alligator. He mercilessly smacked crickets around with his tail and hunted fish with the same enthusiasm as a cat. Despite how gleefully he ate his food, because I handled him so often, he was also really mellow and never acted aggressively toward me. Also he had a dragon's love of shiny objects.

Beyond a fascination with moss pigs, wondering at vampiric squid and finding jumping spiders adorable, I got two, really.

I think saltwater crocodiles are amazing prehistoric eating engines. Draconic, gigantic, fairly smart, cunning, opportunistic yet specialized, incredibly strong, and very dangerous. They prey on anything they can bite. In the news, they are the only animal I noticed that has any degree of regular attacks on people. Not that I like the idea of people being killed, but I do like the idea that something out there is not taking our bullshit, lying down and being thoughtlessly slaughtered all the time like almost everything else in the animal kingdom. I understand that they most likely are not consciously fighting back or anything, but still.

But my favorite animals are rattlesnakes. They just look so cool.
