I don't get why people were so shocked about Legend of Korra's scene. It isn't the first time that Cartoon Network has let shows with broader audience demographics get away with these scenes.
Cartoon Network? Not on Cartoon Network.

OT:

Yes on Cartoon Network. Star War: The Clone Wars. A terrorist bomber sets of an explosive in a public square, killing and injuring dozens, before jumping off a balcony into a crowded marketplace and splatting on the ground.

I had something else to say, but yea this one topped mine, I can't believe I forgot that scene, so kudos to you while I go back to the drawing board to think of something else

Edit: Ok, well this isn't my favorite animated scene of all time, but this is my favorite moment of the absolute annihilation of an enemy
How do you kill a horrible monster that can fully regenerate as many times as the number of souls used to create it? You kill it with fire! Over and over! My favorite villain death that I can think of at the moment, the ***** needed to die and it was oh so satisfying

Edit #2: Ok someone posted one way better than mine in the thread, so I'll put it here to avoid quotes
How do you kill a horrible monster that can fully regenerate as many times as the number of souls used to create it and was made with far more souls than Lust? KILL IT WITH MORE FIRE!!!
This guy deserved a far harsher death than Lusts, and by god did he get it. I love how Mustang doesn't bother with Envys attempted monologue bullcrap, he wants him dead, and he's gonna make him dead.

Huh, strange that I didn't see it on Nick. I always thought it was a CN show. Odd. Still, Nick does play DBZ Kai, so they aren't shying away from death.

Basically all of the episodes from season 9 and 10 of Red vs Blue. Ever since they incorporated CGI animation into the series, it has just become absolutely insane. However, probably THE most epic is Season 8 Episode 19 [http://roosterteeth.com/archive/?id=1527&v=more&s=8], followed closely by Season 10 Episode 4 [http://roosterteeth.com/archive/?id=5119&v=more&s=10], starts at 2:07.

Seriously, best animated web series EVER. Of all time.

Sailor Moon got me hooked on anime, but my al time favorite is Evangelion.
Recently Madoka Magica impressed me the most in terms of innovation, but Eva movie with its new technology blew my brains out.
Persona 4 is great if you know the game and the prior series.
I love the soundtrack.

I prefer the Kai version myself, but they're both awesome

So epic :D
While the first transformation definitely had biggest impact storywise, to me the scene itself doesn't hold up to some of the later, more refined, versions.

As much as I hate SSJ3 for quantifying the transformations, this scene is definitely one of the most memorable in all of DBZ. Even if it is just 5 minutes of yelling.

As long as we're on the subject of Dragonball Z I think this scene deserves mention:
It was just so dark and unexpected. A far cry from the actual androids who spent all their time driving around in a van. It's especially grim considering that it comes shortly after Trunks, Vegeta, Piccolo, Tien and Yamcha all lose to the androids. We don't yet know about Piccolo and Kami's ability to fuse, or the hyperbolic time chamber, and it's one of the few moments in DBZ where defeat seems like a real possibility

I know, I've used it as a "most messed up scene", "most nightmarish scene" and "scene the traumatized you as a child", but it remains the single best scene depicting the hell that is nuclear attacks ever.

Alright everyone. Good choices here and all, but you can all pack in because I've got the winner here Just kidding. But seriously, this is one my favorite anythings from anything.

A scene(s) from a certain episode of Beast Wars called Code of the Hero. (kind cheating since it's really not a single scene)

<spoiler=Vid title is a big spoiler fyi><youtube=4DQblCuUZWw>
I agree with the description too:
"There are two possibilities: either this is one of the most touching, powerful and heroic scenes ever depicted in Transformers; or you're dead inside and a terrible person."

I recently did my final project for Media Studies class on a scene from Puella Magi Madoka Magica.

You know. The one in episode 3 where Mami gets killed. I just love the framing and attention to detail.

I guess that one qualifies.

Sorry, I thought you meant that Legend of Korra was on Cartoon Network. I misread, sorry again.

YES. Such badassery. The scene that beats it in my book though is the one where Mustang loses his shit and (basically) single-handedly almost destroys Envy. It's one of the best examples of a one sided fight I can think of

This chase scene from Tin Tin is ridiculous
I was about to agree there, but then you added 'well done' and I was like oh... oh well.

For me it's nearly any scene in Porco Rosso, but especially both the sequence flying out towards Milan under the clouds, and Porco's story told beside the beach at night.

As for game cutscenes: This classic from the first Mafia game. Some of the best game cinematography I've ever seen:

Yomiko is probably the best 'hero' in all Animes I've ever seen.

Also, 'The Book of Kells' has some of the best Art Direction in all Western animated movies

I won't evoke Studio Ghibli, because everyone should know they are amazing, even when raped by the Disney treatment.

I could go on forever about favorite animated scenes, any number of ML:FiM and Ren & Stimpy scenes, the entirety of Hiroyuki Imaishi's Dead Leaves, and several scenes from FlCl with honorable mention to the scene where Mamimi first sees Canti for the absolutely glorious way it syncs with the music (goosebumps every time), but for all time favorite, I have to go with this classic (1:26-2:04):

Just for the sheer virtuosity of Rod Scribner.
