Oedipus, I always liked his story despite the incest...

I'm also jumping on the Hades bandwagon. Guy is awesome.

I always liked echo and felt bad for her... but as for my favorite character? I think it would have to be Odysseus for his wit, or Charon 'cause the dude is so chill.

Prometheus; he created mankind (not women though) and, unlike the gods, wanted humans to flourish.

I would suggest people who watched the movie Prometheus read up on the greek Titan; many parallels between his story and that film (odd that) which many mistakenly interpreted as being based on the biblical myths. But there are some similarities between biblical mythology and other, older, creations mythologies so its probably no surprise.

When I was growing up, I really liked Hades. He was kinda a loner, and just kinda kept to himself, plus he had a three headed dog, and I thought that would be awesome. He did have some kind of trickster moments, and was a jerk from time to time, but that was only when people would come into his house first. He didn't go and seek trouble.

What, he was real!

Probably Hades. He's so evil and bad ass and whatnot. I also loved him in God of War.

Odysseus.

Poor guy just wanted to stay on his island kingdom with his family. But no, everyone had to come and start being a dick about stuff.

The muses for me, I like the idea of a pantheon of mini godesses each reprensenting a form of art and entertainment. Had we continued their worship, we would probably have added a muse of cinema and a muse of videogaming at some point.

In a similar vein, like Appollo as besides being an artsy god, he could also cure you of disease.
Not as keen on his sun powers as i prefer the night, but no ones perfect.

Erechtheus, first king of Athens. He was the son of Athena, Hephaestus, and the Earth (in that Hephaestus got excited, ejaculated on Athena, and it dripped onto the ground and Erechtheus came out of it...meaning the Athenians that claim to be his descendants are truly autocthonous). He was half snake...I like the idea of society being tolerant enough to accept half snake people being able to have important jobs.

Also, the Erinyes/Eumenides. Terrible female monsters that hunted down wrongdoers and people that got in the way or stood to close or were unlucky, but I like the idea that just because you are a terrible monster, you aren't exempt from a useful and productive function in the world such as chasing wrongdoers.

Also (though this might have jsut been in the Roman version, can't remember), one of them had a lover, that she accidently killed with the poisonous snakes in her hair (not quite the same as the Gorgons, who had snakes instead of her, she seems to have snakes as well as hair).

Zeus.
He kills what annoys him and fucks everything else.
Plus, he's got a rockin' beard.

Odysseus and Hades.

Odysseus is one of the few heroes who actually gets close to a happy ending, and he gets it all through his own cleverness and ingenuity.

And Hades in the actual myths is the least jackassy of all the gods. Pretty much his worst crime is stealing away Persephone, but he doesn't do anything to her besides keeping her against her will in the Underworld. Not that great, but when compared to rapist philanderer Zeus or psychopathic rapist Poseidon the third brother is a saint.

"You have Captain Diomedes!
Diomedes is rather a boss in The Iliad. He spears Aphrodite as she aides the Trojans, and then later Ares. He stabs and wounds the freaking god of war. Sure, he is reduced later on, but the act alone is rather awesome.

My favorite of the gods is Hephaestus, simply because he's the smithing got, and crafted all of the gods weapons--including Zeus' lightning bolts. That's right, Zeus doesn't make lightning, the crippled god makes it for him.
He was also lame in the legs, and not that handsome, making him rather different in comparison to the normal idea of a god, which I find interesting.

I might come back and add more guys to this. I love mythology.

Since 90% of the Greek gods are assholes, I'm going to agree with Hades who gets an unfairly amount of bad rep. He's like the little brother who's tired of his jerkass siblings' bullshit and just wants to get away from them and be in peace in the underworld. Zeus is a colossal asshole and Hera is a spiteful *****. The animated movie of Hercules is probably the most inaccurate representation of Greek mythology. They make Zeus and Hera look like a bunch of caring and benevolent parental gods, and flanderize Hades into some evil, wise-cracking Dysney cartoon villain, and he still manages to be the best thing about that movie.Thank god for the God of War games where I can just massacre all of the gods for being such pricks.

I'm going to echo the Odysseus sentiment here. The guy spends twenty years away from home only to get back and find a bunch of assholes trying to marry his wife. His ensuing rampage is nothing short of legendary.

I love me some of that Hades stuff.
I think he has one of the best stories - the one including Demeter and Persephone.
Also, Dionysus gets a mention because he's just luvin lyf.

Odysseus, Orion, and Theseus.

I can vouch for Hades as well.
Zeus rapes women? Not a problem, all the other gods just say "OH THAT ZEUS, what a player!"
Hades kidnaps a woman (who just happens to be the daughter of Demeter) out of loneliness? The gods are like "WTF HADES."
