he seems to be the weakest and least capable of the squad (so I can relate)

Lilith (Borderlands)
her special ability turns her invisible and she specializes in the cool ammo types

Note: I say Mass Effect 2 because she's romance-able in it. I liked her just as much in the original, but the romance sub-plot really makes her epic.
