Woo! The one problem I had with it though is that I went on the day with Foals, Crystal Castles and 2 other bands whom I have heard nothing about since. The other day had Amadou and Mariam, Vampire Weekend, Florence and the Machine and Deerhoof.
For me though... either Sigur Ros or Jonsi at Latitude 2008 and 2010 respectively.
Both of these had low expectations. I had seen videos of Sigur Ros playing live, and it looked like an incredibly sober affair. In what I had seen, the band all sat down, didn't move at all, no frills, just them playing the music. When I saw them live however, by the end of the performance, they had about 12 people on stage, including a marching band. They were all in these elaborate costumes, they had a great light show, confetti, there was just this great energy emanating from all of them.
After that, I though Jonsi was bound to dissappoint. I hadn't heard any of his solo stuff, but I just assumed it would all be just like a stripped down version of Sigur Ros. I was so wrong. Even though the band was a lot smaller, they had an almost punkish energy to them. The drummer was wild, Jonsi just owned the stage and the rest of the band made this really dense and beautiful music. I've never heard music that managed to be both high energy and beautiful in that way.
Honorable Mention: S Club 3 at my unis Freshers Ball.
I started out with really low expectations and feeling very cynical about the whole thing. When they started playing, everyone mentally reverted to the age of about 7. Everyone was drunk, everyone knew all the words and were singing along, everyone was dancing like they couldn't give a toss. It was ridiculous fun.
