This can be from a film, TV Show, book, game, or anything you want (fictional of course, no ranting or praising real people to give them an ego boost). Sorry if the thread has been done before but I'll be damned if I'm sitting through over 200 pages to look, since there was nothing on the search button. Just interested to know people's favourite characters of fiction, maybe provoke a debate (no trolling) about different forms of fiction and different characters within that. I'll start you all off:

From TV I would probably go for the characters of Sid and Cassie from British drama Skins. The reason being that in Sid I see a lot of myself, while with Cassie there's a mysterious quality surrounding her, she enjoys playing with people's minds and seeing the consequences but hides a vulnerable interior.
As for literature, Sam Vimes of Discworld gets my vote, simply because he's a sarcastic genius, and Dr Cox from Scrubs (TV again) for the same reason.

Note that reasons are preffered as well (for the interests of debate...).

Lyra Belacqua from His Dark Materials. The book, NOT the movie. The movie butchered the book, and while most of the time I'm just saying it to be on the 'books are awsum' pretentious bandwagon, this time, it was actually so TRUE that the only similarity between the two was that they had me in tears by the end. Although for two completely different reasons.

I love a lot of characters for a lot of very different reasons, though the man of the moment is Vladimir Lem from Max Payne 2. He is the dearest of all my friends.

I have to agree. A complex person driven by fate, but without realising it, and driven in the end by friendship and love. I also agree with the statement about the film, the books were so much better...

Film: Sauron, because he is Sauron...
TV Show: Mr Burns, because he is awesome
Book: Odysseus, because he is the mighty Odysseus
Game: CJ from San Andreas, because most video game characters suck whereas CJ... doesn't

Dr House on TV, just because it amazes me how much they can portray a person who's work is about saving people as such a self centred non caring ass. Also Hugh Laurie is awesome.

Solid Snake, Metal Gear-Metal Gear Solid 1 (the only time he is real in my alternate storyline) because its a lone man going the job alone against enemies unknown and a team that's mostly trying to kill him, and he somehow pulls it off.

Jubal Harshaw, from Stranger In A Strange Land by Robert Heinlein. Jubal-like characters appeared in every Heinlein book I've read, but he's my favorite in specific, perhaps because he also reminded me of Samuel Clemens.

Vyvyan Basterd from The Young One is, at present, my next-favorite. I love his mix of intellect and extreme violence.
