I would rather see Pam and Jim from The Office succeed as a couple than anyone in real life.

Holden in Catcher in the Rye.

This can be from a film, TV Show, book, game, or anything you want (fictional of course, no ranting or praising real people to give them an ego boost). Sorry if the thread has been done before but I'll be damned if I'm sitting through over 200 pages to look, since there was nothing on the search button. Just interested to know people's favourite characters of fiction, maybe provoke a debate (no trolling) about different forms of fiction and different characters within that. I'll start you all off:

From TV I would probably go for the characters of Sid and Cassie from British drama Skins. The reason being that in Sid I see a lot of myself, while with Cassie there's a mysterious quality surrounding her, she enjoys playing with people's minds and seeing the consequences but hides a vulnerable interior.
As for literature, Sam Vimes of Discworld gets my vote, simply because he's a sarcastic genius, and Dr Cox from Scrubs (TV again) for the same reason.

Note that reasons are preffered as well (for the interests of debate...).
Vimes is so awsome. also Discworld's Death.

Roland Deschain from the dark tower series is probably my favorite character, I mean he cleared out an entire town all by himself in the first book of the series, if that's not bad-ass I don't know what is.

Dr. Cox, for being awesome.
Michael Scofield (Prison Break), also for being awesome.
Rand Al'Thor (Wheel Of Time), for reasons even I'm unsure of.
Spider-Man, because he's freakin' Spider-Man.
Solid Snake, for being a bad-ass.
Mr. Monopoly, for that bitchin' 'stache.
M'aiq the Liar (Morrowind), for being so damn great.
Homer Simpson, because he's my hero.

Lyra Belacqua from His Dark Materials. The book, NOT the movie. The movie butchered the book, and while most of the time I'm just saying it to be on the 'books are awsum' pretentious bandwagon, this time, it was actually so TRUE that the only similarity between the two was that they had me in tears by the end. Although for two completely different reasons.
God, but you're right. I didn't even have to see the movie to know how they butchered the book. Seriously, calling all the daemons "pans"? Seriously? For those who don't know, in the book, Pan was the name of a specific daemon, not all of them. And while I have no doubt that was just one of many atrocities, I saw mention of that and though "Oh, not seeing that".

My short list is as follows:

V (both the character from the novel and the movie)
Rorschach
Colm Corbec
Tali'Zorah nar Rayya
Garrus Vakarian
Urdnot Wrex

Jay and Silent Bob (they come as a set)
Bender B Rodriguez
Gregory House

Dr. Who (when he was played by David Tennant)
Bold means I agree. Bold and underlined means Fuck Yeah! Nothing means I don't know anything about them.

Alright, in her titular book series, she starts out as arguably the best tactician in the known universe. And still just a junior grade captain. She stops the People's Republic of Haven (Peeps from here on) from launching not one but two surprise attacks. Then, when the Peeps openly declare war, she is the one who suggests and adapts the long-abandoned missile pods for use. For the rest of the war, missile pods play an important role. Capitalizing on this, she later develops the two weapons which win the war for Manticore: Light Attack Craft Carriers (CLACs) and hollowed out super dreadnoughts filled with deployable missile pods (SD(P)s).

She also defeats multiple assassination attempts (the first few just ones she's present for, not ones aimed against her. They are, however, aimed against her once her worth as an officer becomes apparent) by, respectively, beating the crap out of a huge number of would-be assassins (did I mention she's a black belt in Coup De Vitesse?) who were attempting to kill Protector Benjamin of Grayson (for which she's offered a Steading on Grayson, making her essentially a head of state, answering only to Benjamin, and also entitling her to become a countess in her home system of Manticore), kills a professional duelist in a legal duel by firing her pistol from the hip, survives a shuttle crash, escapes from the Prison planet Hades, and intercepts a missile heading for the Queen of Manticore's ship with her own ship (the physics of this universe mean that, since the ships are propulsed by bands of stressed gravity, she could pull it off. It's less complex than it sounds), for which she's made a Duchess.

That's not to say she escapes unscathed. The first assassination attempt she thwarted ends with her losing her left eye and the functionaliy of the nerves on the left side of her face, killing the duelist was in retaliation for him killing her lover in another legal duel, and in escaping the prison planet she loses her left arm. But she turns most of this to her advantage, getting replacement nerves for her face, getting a prosthetic eye (compete with telescopic and night vison), and getting a prosthetic arm, in which a pulser (gun which fires explosive dart) is implanted and completely hidden. Simply put, she's a badass.
Keep in mind, all the above take place within 15 or so years.

Link (Zelda series) - He is always a blast to play as
Hiro Nakamura (Heroes) - I find his childishness and heroic resolve amusing
Wall-E - It's funny how a machine can have so much heart, and look cute
Dr. Gregory House - I'd hate to meet him, but I love his sharp wit

HK-47- (Star Wars: KOTOR) What's not to love about a crazy, homicidal hunter-killer droid with a wicked sense of humor?

Udnot Wrex- (Mass Effect) A funny, angry, badass Krogan with a chip the size of Texas on his shoulder.

Jinnosuke/Kuma- (Afro Samurai) Angry cyborg Samurai with a teddy bear mask out for revenge against the Afro Samurai. Sweet.

Darth Vader- (Star Wars) He is proof that if you put a voice synthesizer and cybernetic suit over a whiny pansy, then you can get a badass with a cool voice who nobody wants to fuck with.

Ender Wiggin- (Ender's Game, Speaker for the Dead, Xenocide) A genius tactician who (SPOILER) was capable of annihilating and entire species. Oh yeah, and he was fucking twelve when he did it.

Paul Aterides- (Dune, Dune Messiah, Children of Dune) A brilliant tactician and very capable warrior in hand to hand combat. And he also created a massive, multi-galaxy spanning empire with one planets worth of warriors. And he could see the future.

Rorschach- (Watchmen) Because he's fucking Rorschach.
