Since the new Animal Crossing came out, Bells.

Bolts from the Ratchet and Clank series are cool as well. Causing property damage = instant profit this way.

Credits from Mass Effect. It's nice to have a universal currency.

Interesting... I didn't know The Legend of Zelda was set in India.

OT:

I quite like caps from Fallout, even though they don't make much sense seeing as how lugging around thousands of caps and having to count them all would make trading a nightmare. I just like the idea of an improvised currency.

Which is also why I like the bullets in Metro.

Military-grade bullets from the Metro series. The scarcity and necessity of these rounds give them real value and reflect the world you find yourself in.

Military grade bullets! Not as shiny as gold, but if things get desperate, my money can help me out! ---which also solves the regretful ending of dying rich. I mean who wants to die with unspent cash? What more can you ask for?

I was always a fan of the Brass Razoo myself. But that's probably the Australian in me.

NCR dollars.
Brotherhood of Steel destroyed most of NCR's gold deposits and now it ain't worth shit, unlike the Legion's silver Denarius and gold Aurelius.

I like the gold from Adventure Quest, not because it's cool on its own, but because of their wealth distribution system. The one ranger girl is quite proud of how she steals from people and gives money to monsters.

How do you think this dumb son of a ***** got 200 bucks?
That's almost ingenious it's silliness, an in universe reason for monsters dropping pocket change! Someone tell Peter Molonenyu!

On topic: Rupees, mainly because they're precious gems, so all my money is pwetty-full.

Because they're just ridiculous, and can be substituted for any currency name.

Well, seeing as how on the other side of the fourth wall, my other self has had to deal with a few of these currencies, give me a moment...

*makes a phone call using a weird looking earpiece* Hey, Gamemaster, got a question for you. There's this question on the Escapist about favorite fictional currency. Which one do you like the most?

*pause*

Huh...value of the Mushroom Kingdom gold coin went down since New Super Mario Brothers 2, huh? Okay, what about the others?

*pause*

No, I don't think you can count the Mobium. That currency wasn't canon in the Sonic games. Hell, they actually used Rings in Sonic Chronicles.

*paws...er, pause*

Yeah, same with the DDDollar from Popstar. That wasn't used in the games either.

*strangely long pause*

So, Angel Land actually uses its own currency that ISN'T hearts? Guess I shouldn't be too surprised. What about the other core worlds?

*pause*

Both the Capcomverse Zenny and Hylian Rupee are hard to manage, huh? Well, what would you prefer?

*pause*

Alright, credits it is then. Who do you know that uses them?

*pause*

The Lylat system?!? Well, that does make sense, actually. Thanks, man! *hangs up and removes the earpiece*

Sorry about that. Credits are the winner for me. Like The said, it's nice to have a universal currency.

Pokemon cards...
an internet cookies for the first person to get this.

I'm a huge fan of caps because it's the fun idea of an economy choosing it's currency. Hint hint
Or Double Dollars from Tri-Gun because they're like normal dollars but, ya'know double.
But my favorite is when there isn't a currency and the economy is built on trade.
That just leads to fun.

Hmm, I can't think of a good way to add in Spice and Wolf...
But everything from that too.

Credits.

Very simple universal currency used in countless games.

I think Britain, America, Canada, France and a few other places in Europe should all switch to a single Credit system as there prices, costs of living and job pay rates are quite similar. The the rest of the world can slowly bring themselves in line and switch over.

SO that we final have a world currency.

Would make live easier and fairer for all.

Bullets in Metro. It just makes sense. After the end of the world, gold is just a mostly useless, pretty, very heavy metal. Bullets will always be useful.

So yeah, bullets are the best currency. What better way to pay for something than with the capacity to efficiently murder things?

Hey I was just recommended S&W by a friend last week (or as I like the call it, Suspicious Business Deals: The Anime.) I'm on episode 5 and it's looking pretty good. This and Hyouka proves that you can make anything interesting if you present it in the right way. Come on, whole scenes on currency comparison? That should be boring as fuck. Nope, good writing haterz.

Adventure Quest is big on the, "Silly ingenious" sort of thing.

It's like how they explain your ability to fight a monster underwater for hours, because ages ago there was an industrial accident and millions of gallons of water breathing potions were infused with the sea, infecting the hydrosphere, leading to all water being breathable.

I've actually described it to someone as the most exciting economics lesson they'll ever have, told them the story, they said that's dumb, now they love it. Try and explain the premise to some without them saying that's stupid...
Yet it's so good, you really can make a good show out of anything.
My favorite anime, Bakemonogatari is 90% blank scenery and random talking yet it keeps my attention due to great writing and beautiful animation. The other 10% is actual story and maybe some fighting that's just made better thanks to the lack of it.
It really shouldn't work as well as it does, this goes for S&W and Hyouka too.
