Final Fantasy X is my top choice. It really drew me in as a small child, and almost everything about it makes me love it. The soundtrack, story and gameplay are all top notch. Even playing it today, (which I did), it is still an excellent game.

Final Fantasy VI.

Excellent cast, phenomenal score [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=joRZL671Esk], gripping plot, and a great combat system.

Not to mention, one hell of a villain.

Final Fantasy 8. I had the most fun with it, and enjoyed it more than anything else.

This is a close second, for all the reasons he listed.

Is there one where it's actually the Final Fantasy? That'll be my favorite :p

I kidd, I kidd. Honestly, the only experience I have with Final Fantasy is a demo that came with Brave Fencer Musashi or something, though I hear FFXI was pretty good, so I guess that one.

FFVIII, the junction system was innovative and if people had spent more than ten minutes on it they might have figured out how to use it to fuck the game over like I did, by level 25 I was killing level 40 enemies with ease, and it pisses me off to hear people talk about how hard it was to understand, I got the game at 15 and was like "JUNCTION SYSTEM FTW!!" cause it really was THAT FUCKING SIMPLE. but I suppose people like to ignore good innovations in favor of not having to do ANY THING AT ALL ( >.> FFXII )
the juction system was rather WIN =D

I only played some of the classics (and I'm still going through XIII), so I'd have to go with FFVI.

FFVIII was my favourite, I was totally immersed in that game. My second favourite, or even possibly tied for first, is FFIX. Those two titles just worked for me, from the story, to the combat system to the score.

Tatics, that game had a solid combat system, cute sprite charecters, the COUNT, and a great skill learning system.

People remember Brave Fencer Musashi!? Kick-ass!

OP: Final Fantasy III (the real III) is my favorite. Sort-of.
Its about tied with IX.
They were both really fun to play.

Hell yes I remember Brave Fencer Musashi! That's one game series that needs to be resurrected!

hmm well depends.

my favorite thus far is 7, i have not fully completed 6, although it is pretty good, i still think kefka is a douchebag of a villain but nonetheless something easily for me to get over

9 is pretty damn good, i liked it alot but i just couldn't get myself to play it more than once so far, so we will see

no offense but i still can't stand 8, not that i dont understand the junction system, i just dont like it and even though every final fantasy game is different, i just did not feel it was anything like final fantasy at all and after about a good 5 hours of playing i fell asleep and haven't touched it since then.

so probably 7 as of now, tied closely behind by 6 and 9

Having played 4,5,6,7,10,and 12 (finished 4,5,6,10), my top two are 5 and 6.

FF5 had a fun battle system and an amusing story (it gave us Gilgamesh and an evil tree for crying out loud). However, 6 tops 5 (for me) with its compelling cast of main characters, emotional story, and Kefka with "Dancing Mad."

Regardless, I look back on all of them fondly (with the exception of 12).

Very close between IX and XII. I'm gonna go with IX because of the music theme as you load/start a new game, as well as some great characters and a balanced combat system. Third probably belongs to VII. I didnt like X's turn based system much. I have heard great things about VI, but I dont think I'll ever get to play it :(
