The title does pretty much say it all really. What were some of your favourite pieces of music from games this year.

Now while I have absolutely no control over anyone else's actions yet, I would ask that it is not just straight up licensed music. As much as I loved listening to Baker Street in GTA V and What is Love in Saints Row IV, they weren't really songs from this year, and as such I would disqualify them. However, I would allow any remixed/covers done exclusively for a game this year (the Bioshock Infinite versions of songs being a prime example). In fact, I myself have chosen one such song.

Finally I would ask if you are embedding video, especially if you have a lot of choices, if you could place them in spoiler tags, just to avoid the thread lagging as much as possible.

So now that has all been said, time to give my top five choices (you can have more or less, I just thought it was a nice round number of choices)

Starting off with my "alternate version" choice...

A lot of the various covers in Bioshock Infinite are excellent (Fortunate Son is another favourite of mine) but God Only Knows in particular stands out because while listening to it, it was the first moment I thought "Yes, I'm in for something special here".

I'm not quite sure how to explain how I love this theme without thinking that I sound really pretentious or idiotic. So I shall leave it there to be judged on it's own merits.

This is one soundtrack that I will definitely say works much better whilst playing Payday 2. However, it works that well in-game that I felt it deserved to be mentioned outside of it. Honestly, in-game, the music that Simon Viklund composed is pretty much perfect throughout for the situation you are in.

Now with every Pokemon game for the past few generations, there's usually a few tracks at most that I like, but most of it I ultimately find mediocre and end up just having the music off at all times. X/Y however, is the first time since the 2nd generation where I've at least enjoyed pretty much every track. And my favourite is the Bike Theme. I'm a sucker for that little guitar bit =P

It's cyberpunk mixed with classical! What's not to love about that!? Also Remember Me as a whole needs more love in my opinion, so there.

[sub]I urge you all to give it attention at some point, whether it's on sale, free on PS+, etc.[/sub]

Anyway, those are my choices, so now yours.

Gotta go with "Will The Circle Be Unbroken" from Bioshock Infinite.

And "In The Water" from the end of episode 1 of The Walking Dead Season 2.

Also a shout out to Payday 2's soundtrack as a whole. It really makes the game much more intense.

Well that is really quite easy
As usual I can't really articulate why I love this soundtrack so much. I am a sucker for that 80's synth sci-fi sound and Powerglove nailed it here while also producing some incredible tracks. And by some I mean every single track is amazing.

All of the Ace Attorney: Dual Destinies soundtrack.
That's a remixed version of an old track, so it might not really count, but it's one of the dramatic ones, and the new tracks compliment the old ones splendidly

The Fire Emblem: Awakening soundtrack was good all around, but this...

Beautiful, man... Even without knowing how it was going to be used, I listened to this again and again weeks before the games release. The mission where it plays makes it even better.

Bioshock infinite doesn't get a vote from me for music, but the use of sound in the game overall is amazing.

And as long as we're counting just the use of sound...
there's this MAJOR SPOILER FOR XCOM ENEMY WITHIN

That goes in my top gaming moments of the year a well. Otherwise Xcom-music is nice but repeats itself a fair bit.

Ehhhhh 2013 wasn't a particularly memorable year for soundtracks, aside from Ace Attorney but that's to be expected. Ace Attorney games have a wacky sense of humour, overly convoluted cases that somehow make sense and a brilliant soundtrack. That's just how it rolls

But I have to say, DD has by far the most convoluted cases. I mean, softcore bondage porn? Really? Well i'm not complaining but still...

I have to say as far as soundtracks go I was more interested in the anime side of things this year. Yes my entire music library is anime music, game music or music I found through gaming videos AKA Keyori videos. That AP Leona tho...

Well speaking of Bioshock Infinite, I've always loved its version of Girls Just Wanna Have Fun.

Pokemon X/Y had one of my favourite Pokemon soundtracks.

And Saints Row IV and GTA V had some great licensed music.

Made me laugh: Saints Row IV - Boss & Pierce singing Biz Markie's Just a Friend, and then being interupted by Zinyak
(would add video, but youtube sucks!)
Made me join in: Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag- All of the shanties, I loved them, but my favorite is probably "Leave Her Johnny, Leave Her"

Oh and....
Made me download: Mass Effect 3: Citadel - Damn good soundtrack, love listening to it on my way to work

Yoko Shimomura never fails to deliver and I felt she really brought her A-game with Dream Team. The game is probably the weakest in the series as a whole, but it easily has the best soundtrack in the series yet. Kinda cheating since the 3DS can support a lot higher quality music than DS or GBA could though.

The entire soundtrack of The Last of Us was fantastic, but this track really stood out.

That subtle hint of betrayel that runs through it gives me chills everytime.

I support both of these. AC4 in particular. I can't understand how some people get annoyed by the shanties. I thought it was a ton of fun. :D

But my first place goes to Ni no Kuni.

Best use of a licensed song in a game EVER.

I haven't really gotten many games this year, but I did find Metro: Last Light to be rather nice.

Killer Instinct.

Mick Gordon, the producer of the soundtrack, was inspired to make video game music because of Killer Instinct. His passion for the series is shown strongly in this amazing soundtrack. I haven't played this game yet, but funnily enough this is my favourite Game Music of 2013. I love the entirety of this soundtrack, all of it.

Pah!! time to bring out the not so typical results. Only soundtracks that proved memorable and worthy of repeat listening for me.

We got an Ys game this year, so no best of X year is complete without mention of it. Hell I almost feel like cheating and just mentioning the awesome 25th Anniversary music set they released.

Ys Celceta playlist, because you should listen to it all dammit: http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL23F4F4C125D69BB6

Soul Sacrifice deserves a lot of mention because Yasunori Mitsuda. Yes, that dude responsible for Chrono Trigger, Chrono Cross, and a host of others is responsible for the hauntingly beautiful and equally epic sound track.

Soul Sacrifice playlist; feel your damn spine tingle: http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLyLrfxRkzcd7IUK1qcd9DQr7LkH4vW8ds

I've gotta go with some of the tracks from Sonic Lost World:

Combining guitar with violin...oh Tomoya Ohtani, you god you. :p

As for songs from other games, the reorchastrated songs from Kingdom Hearts Final Mix HD and 358/2 Days HD were phenomenal, and it reminds me that Yoko Shimomura is the Goddess of gaming music.

TLOU had the best original score of the games I played. I also really enjoyed the sea shanties in AC4.
