Yup.
I was sitting there, thinking "damn, Mark of the Ninja had an amazing credit song".
And then I made this thing here because I'm curious what other people's favourites were from last year. (it doesn't really have to be a song made specifically for the game, just part of a game's soundtrack)

There can be no other answer.

Chills, every time.

Ascending to the heavens on the glorious winds, watching the landscape pass underneath, you knew your journey was coming to an end. And it was ever so sweet, the uplifting taste of freedom.

Definitely Hotline Miami, I love every single track. Pretty sure it's my most frequently listened to video game soundtrack after Gitaroo Man by now.

I love the main theme of Closure...

Well, Hotline Miami has an amazing soundtrack. I also liked Journey, The Unfinished Swan and Thomas Was Alone. It was a good year for video game music.

This was my favourite track from a game last year

As for the best overall soundtrack I'd say either FTL or Hotline Miami

I love that track. Darksiders 2 has an incredible OST. The game is just so surprisingly great. Definitely the biggest surprise in years as far as I'm concerned. Too bad about the IP.

Mine would have to be from Mass Effect 3. Say what you want about the game, lord knows I did, but the soundtrack is incredible

as terrible as the game was, Mass Effect 3 did have one hell of a soundtrack, it really was a pleasure to listen to.

usually however when a halo game comes out it blows its competition out of the water in the soundtrack department but the OST for Halo 4 was just... weak. i wouldnt say its bad, in fact i did like it, but it wasnt anything special which is such a disapointment when compared to the last few games

How did I forget about ME3. I think everyone can agree that the OST for that game was just incredibly good.

I think you think wrong, I cannot stand the ME3 soundtrack. Manipulative, overplayed music at its finest. Not surprising considering it came from fucking Clint Mansell, the king of overused, overdramatic music.

Gravity Rush is by far the best sound track I've heard this year, and is easily one of my favorite game OSTs of all time. Gravity Rush's music is just fantastic, whimsical, and catchy.

This is my favorite track of them all, love the instrumental version, so damn catchy.

It was incredibly hard to choose just one.
Believe me. Although, hearing this with the visuals of the level is just something else.

I agree with the posts regarding Mass Effect 3, I loved the music in all those games and 3 really nailed it I felt.

I'm not sure it counts as it's not an 'original' piece for the game but there is a moment in Far Cry 3 where this song plays and it just so perfectly fits that I stopped caring about what I did and started laughing like a maniac.

I've never played Journey but I've heard many good things and that piece was quite simply beautiful, thank you for sharing that.

Chalk up another vote for ME3. The music if you muck up the genophage cure, Betrayal [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YF6i3xvgyhE] is particularly stand out for poignancy, and both The Cerberus Plot [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=al8639EvPB0] and Mars [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uuE4ltHVpbs] are pretty kickass too. Extra props to the latter for going back to the eighties synth vibe of ME1's glorious soundtrack.

I've heard good things about Journey, and I've listened to some of the soundtrack. It does sound rather beautiful, but not being a PS3 player I haven't experienced the game, and therefore don't really have any association between it and the soundtrack. I therefore don't feel I can comment on it's success as music designed to accentuate a game.

Actually, Clint Mansell only contributed one and a bit songs to the soundtrack. Namely, Leaving Earth [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KGHA9oO1Ybg] and An End Once And For All. I will also have to disagree with you and say that Leaving Earth is a lovely little piece. That pan of the Reapers raining down on Earth with it playing, I dunno man it did it for me. The majority of the soundtrack came from ME2 vet Sam Hulick, with contributions from a couple of newcomers I'm forced to admit I don't remember the names of.

It's also hardly Clint Mansell's fault that Lux Aeterna became so hilariously overused. As for him being the king of overdramatic music? Well, have you ever heard his soundtrack [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hyMlE3nsIyw] to the film Pi? It's pretty awesome, and I'd hardly call it 'overused', much less overdramatic.

EDIT:

Oh dude, I totally forgot about this. Hands down the best bit of the whole game. Had a total blast with this blaring out. And that's coming from someone who thinks Skrillex has taken dubstep to some truly horrible depths (yeah I know, take that as you will). Lot of time for Damien Marley though; he did a collaboration with Nas I'm a big fan of.

Am I allowed to go with remakes? Because Okami HD has some pretty amazing music.

And Mass Effect has a small say, for me, because it was rereleased on the PS3. :3

If I'm not allowed to cheat, then I'm going with Journey. Nascence has to be one of the mot beautiful songs I've had the pleasure to bless my ears with. Apotheosis is also strikingly beautiful.

As much as it was a disappointment to me, Guild Wars 2 had a great OST.

I somewhat agree with this since the music fits the crazy shit happening in the gameplay but fuck after even 30 consecutive minutes of gameplay my head was in migrane levels of pain... Apparently synth isn't my thing. Perhaps lowering the volume would have helped but manly men have all volumes on maximum at all times.

Umm, i'm gonna go with this, since even though Skullgirls flopped in the end the soundtrack and art design is still damn great. The final boss stage is the best fighting game stage I have ever seen.

Know your place!

Fuckin' Marie man...

Skullgirls did come out last year right? I am horrible with time frames I swear.

Oh fuck stop the presses. This. Thisthisthisthis

It was definitely the best business decision of 2012 to use this song as the title screen of Dragon's Dogma. True fact. Capcom jumping on the Skyrim bandwagon? NOPE!

I have to say DD was the sleeper hit of 2012. NOBODY expected it to be even passable for the longest time.
