The Half-Blood Prince was probably my favourite. Lots of great character development, good sub-plots, unseen twists(definitely did not see that ending coming, actively tried to deny that it happened until the book finally ended).

And honestly, those some people don't like it, Deathly Hallows is once of my favourites. I'll be the first to admit that it gets a bit ridiculous sometimes, but I feel like its able to touch on things that give it more emotional depth than most of the other books. There is a genuine struggle, lots of internal and external conflict, emotional hardship. I guess it just felt richer to me than most of the other books.

My is Goblet of Fire since that was the turning point of the entire series (the part at the end).

I also enjoyed 5 the least, because despite how fun it is to hate Umbridge, Harry is just irritatingly pessimistic and aggressive in that one. You can't really sympathise with him.

Not too sure on a favourite; I know my favourite film in the series is Deathly Hallows Part 1, because they actually kept with the pacing of the book for once - and because I managed to successfully guess the exact point in the story it would end at before watching the film.

Honestly I'd probably agree with you that six is the best. Seven was good but suffered a little from not having the school as a kind of frame for the action - and the epilogue completely spoiled it with its sheer stupidity. So yeah, six.

All of them are undeniably good, but I would have to put The Deathly Hallows at the very best. It was extremely well written and there is nothing better than a great ending.

Oh, and this thread proves something for me. On the internet, even something as wonderful as Harry Potter still has people bitching here and there.

For a long time my favourite was PoA; it's the only book I read in one sitting, staying awake until about 4AM so I could finish it. After re-reading it a few times though, it kind of lost its glow. The ending is a bit long when you know the surprises. My favourites nowadays are probably GoF and HBP, but PoA is still rather dear to me.

My least favourites are OotP and DH. OotP is simply too long for its own good. DH answers a lot of questions, but I don't like how they litterally spend half the book doing absolutely nothing. It's just not the same when they're not at school it seems.

Chamber of Secrets was my favorite novel as well as film. It had the right mix of darkish overtones as well as childish innocence that the beginning of the series had.

[sub]...before Prisoner of Azkaban came along and made everything grimdark as all hell, IMHO.[/sub]

I'd have to say Prisoner of Azkaban probably because that's the book that got me hooked to the series (for some reason the first two I couldn't get very far into).

For me, Half-blood Prince is the best overall book, but I think that there is an argument for "The Prince's Tale" and "The Forest Again" being the best chapters in the series overall.

Goblet of Fire. A nice turning up the pace on the overall series plot and less fucking about with things I don't give a shit about in the book itself.

Yes, because in real life, Harry Potter is entirely immune to criticism and revered as entirely perfect. It's only these pesky internet people who could possibly see it as flawed.

order of the phonix def my favorite, read it the most. Deathly hollows by far my least favorite, really didnt care for it. Prisoner of azkhaban prolly my 2nd least, tho still miles above hallows.

Hated umbridge and her power in the 5th, but loved dumbledors army, and their fight in the ministry even if it did make the death eaters look like cartoon villains.

Philosopher's Stone (to hell with the pointless rename!) is personally my favorite. Now, I wouldn't say it's the BEST of the series in terms of quality, but it does a great job of introducing the world and characters as well as being a good stand-alone story, and it's the one I reread the most often.

Prisoner of Azkaban and Goblet of Fire are my favorites in the series probably followed by COS. As for my favorite moment then that would be when Harry first finds the Mirror of Erised, probably one of the saddest moments in the entire series, in fact it's the only point in the series that makes my eyes water a bit; it just so sad feeling how hurt and aching Harry is when he glimpses the parents he'll never have for the first time.

I also like the first book the best. It was simply the most exciting.
The Order of the Pheonix is the point I lost interest. It was just too long and gloomy.

Prisoner of Azkaban

I think it's because it isn't so focused on Voldemort. He doesn't even appear. Best book by far.
