Rather than start a flame war, I'm just going to propose that we switch to "distortion-filled genres that aren't usually seen as just plain rock'n'roll." For some reason, I'm under the impression that this will retroactively fix the mild aneurysm I just had.

Anyway...uhm...

Atheist - Elements

More accessible than their other two, and I like the concept more. Plus the vocals have better enunciation, which is always good.

I'd put forward Blackwater Park, but as with a lot of Opeth material the tracks tend to drag together fairly quickly. Bleak is easily one of the best songs ever written, though.

Taking the best of Images and Words and Awake (DT's 2nd and 3rd albums) would give you a full-length tremendously full of win.

Figured I would force myself to make a first post. Don't hurt me please.
Lamb of God, or DevilDriver. I don't think I could pick a single album.

Ænima by Tool.

If going for purer metal, I would say NOLA by Down. Their crunchy riffs and jerky rhythms are great.

Highfive on that.
"Whats Up People?!" has the best drums ever (especially in the end).
Also, "Zetsubou Billy" is a favorite.
[sub]Why, yes, I do watch Death Note! However did you know?[/sub]
My personal favorites are "Bikini Sports Punchin" and "Chu Chu Lovely"

I have a great memory, I guess...
I know 36 numbers of Pi by heart.

And I have no idea what they say in any song except What Up People?![/sub]
Chu Chu Lovely...something something:

Chu chu: sound of kissing
Lovely
Muni Muni: sound of sucking
Mura Mura: sound of something dirty
Purin Purin: sound of being horny
Boron: (can't remember)
Rero Rero: Sound of going into wetness.

Basically, the whole song is about sex and raping little kids :p

Go figure.

My pick would be Storm of the Light's Bane by Dissection. All the songs are distinctly different, yet thematically and atmospherically related. I just love the way 'At the Fathomless Depths' flows into 'Night's Blood'. And 'Where Dead Angels Lie'! Tis brilliant, I tell you. Also, it has my favourite album cover of all time.

I say Dream Theater's Scenes From A Memory.
It has just about everything I look for in music all jam packed into one album.
simply beautiful
I'd say this is my favorite concept album by quite a bit, but then I'm also extremely partial to Mastodon's "Leviathan" and "Crack the Skye". The difference, to me, is that the Dream Theater album is far more of a story from song to song, whereas Mastodon's stuff is mostly unified in theme, if not lyrics and story.

As far as just being an awesome album, Black Sabbath's "Paranoid" is hard to beat.
