Iron Maiden, Tool, Dethklok if it counts... Metallica, System Of A Down? That's pretty much the extent of my taste for metal these days. Not quite what it used to be.

Opeth. Don't understand an opinion that is otherwise, if they've been introduced to Opeth.

I went on a coaster in Florida that allowed you to pick a song to listen to while riding; one of the categories was metal and I decided to look at it for a good laugh. They listed Evanescence, lol.

Well, it may just be me, mainly cause when I hear an evavenescence song its that Bring me to Life song (which I know isnt enough to base a full opinion of a band from, but I've heard they're never really much more hard core).

From what I've heard they're not that heavy. Not that their necessarily bad, but I always felt they were more hard rockish.

A lot of my choices would be typical or obvious ones, so I'll just list some normally not found in everyones' lists: Axxis, Evergrey, Fairyland, Elvenking(pre-Red Silent Tides), Power Quest, Lost Horizon, Freedom Call, Falconer, Northern Kings.

And of course, the ultimate metal band, belonging to the Wizard of Many Colors, the Hammer Vampire himself, Christopher F***** Lee!!

Favorites? There's so many that I like for what they bring to the table, but if I had to choose, I guess this list will sum it up.

1. A Cascade Dream. Local metal band from Montreal. They're gnarly, brutal, and have some serious steeze.

2. For Today. Go ahead, bash these metal christians, but they're breakdowns would make nuns cum.

3. Between the Buried and Me. Great sound, outstanding drums, deep screams and lifting falsettos.

4. Liferuiner. Not the American shit, the original Canadian group. They make Hitler look like a Girl Scout.

5. Horse the Band. The acclaimed "Nintendocore" band. Say what you want, but synth and metal go together like peanut butter and bananas.

Nightwish
Apocalyptica
Tristania
Ensiferum
Korpiklaani
Epica
My Dying Bride
Hypocrisy
And many more i cba to list right now.
The funny thing about all these "favorite metal band" threads is how people who listen to children of bodom, disturbed, slipknot and all the other similar "metal" bands also list Nightwish, when Nightwish is completely different and you can't like BOTH worlds, sorry. And don't give me the excuse "i like a lot of stuff" etc (that makes it even more laughable). Most people just heard Nightwish from little big planet 2 and immediately jumped the band wagon. Also listening to Amaranth doesn't make you a Nightwish fan.

Hmmm...

Negurã Bunget (Fantastic Black Metal from the Transylvanian mountains)
Deathspell Omega (Some of the most intelligent Black Metal I have ever heard)
Agalloch (Somewhat unspecified Avantgarde/Folk/Doom hybrid oozing with atmosphere from the US)

I could probably put in lots more, but making it a list of the top three at the moment or this would be too long.
