Subject pretty much sums it up. What do you think is the best (or your favourite at any rate) fight scene you've seen in an animated series (and I won't limit this to Japanese anime)? And why, of course. To narrow this down, I mean best as in technical (i.e. good animation, sound effects and clear enough that you can write the choreography for all combatants involved, or at least for the most part.)
Personally:
1. Jiguro Musa vs one of the Spears in Seirei no Moribito (ep. 21). It's a short 40s sequence, but the animation is very crisp, the jarring sound of clashing spear-points is brilliant and the fight itself is very plausible (which is ironic since it's a fantasy series).
2. Nanashi vs Luo-Lang (climax of Sword of the Stranger)... top notch in all departments, very high frame rate helped massively. And the irony of this fight was that the 'Japanese' wasn't Japanese and the 'Chinese' wasn't Chinese... which made a rather interesting statement.
3. Batou vs the Russian spy/paralymic silver medallist in GitS:SAC 1 (ep. 16). As a boxer (OK, Thai boxer) myself, I applaud Production IG for pulling off a pretty good scene here (the second fight wasn't as good) though the winning punch seems a bit iffy to me.
4. Honourable mention goes to Cowboy Bebop which I certainly remember a good couple of fights from, but they escape me at present.
Honestly, though, I seem to have become rather inured to the whole Naruto/Bleach/DB/Gundam etc. superpower fight that seems to be prevalent in anime these days. As a side note, could anyone recommend a decent combat anime with fighting that is humanly possible? It's like why I loved the first fight scene (Morpheus vs. Neo) in the Matrix, but Matrix Revolutions with Smith vs. Neo was just head on desk ridiculous.
Anyway, I digress: what fight did you enjoy most? (And I'll be curious to know what you think of my choices... or maybe not)
