Hmmm....

Aliens or Pacific Rim. They swap places a lot.

If anime is allowed, Summer Wars.

Favorite movie PERIOD is Aliens. Movie where just everything fell in place damn near perfectly.

TV, not even a contest, The Prisoner.

I believe the movie that I'm looking for is called Pandorum, I've watched it plenty of times and more than sure it falls into the Sci-fi category. Don't really know what drew me to it besides it being on TV at one point or another, definitely a different take on things that I've seen before. Depends on what you like though but I definitely enjoyed it to a point, I wouldn't say it's my all time favourite but it was definitely good and one of them. Different opinions on it though.

That's an easy one. End of Evangelion is, by far, the best sci-fi film ever made. It's genius.

I guess second place would go to 2001. It's an absolutely phenomenal film by a real master.

I've heard Solaris is a strong contender. I'll be watching that next.

I prefer Stalker. Sci-fi by the same director, not as tedious. I still need to (restart and) finish Solaris.
Someone told me about Tarkovsky, and he sounded really interesting. I haven't actually seen any of his movies yet, but apparently they're all available online for free. Legally for once. I'll check stalker out when I get the chance.

That is a great movie, and it is for sure scifi.
It has a good premise, and the revelations are well executed.

For days, weeks even.

Halfway because of the score honestly, the theme stands as one of my favorite pieces of music EVER, and the rest is just so darn atmospheric.

Anybody who hasn't seen it and wants to give it a shot, watch it alone, at night, in the dark. I know that's basically the ideal way to watch most movies but I swear to you, you won't regret it.

Following close behind for completely different reasons is Pacific Rim. Something about giants fighting other giants that always gets me, always always always.

Oh, so THAT's where the music for the Aliens: Colonial Marines trailer came from.

Exactly right.
It's funny, when the trailer came out, the music reminded me of the movie and I ended up buying that instead so I wouldn't say the advertisement failed, I mean, I bought something.

Anyway.

Welcome to Lunar Industries was also used for The Iron Lady.

I've heard that Meryl Streep is good but otherwise the movie's kind of just okay at best.
I guess this ominous song is somewhat of a warning sign...
Or not, it's just been attached to one bad thing, one okay thing, and one really really good thing.

Video isn't working for me, but I managed to find it elsewhere. That's an...interesting, combination. Most of the trailers tend to use quite optimistic music, and it certainly doesn't really fit the scene in question.

Personally, I can't really reccomend the movie, but a lot of that is down to personal preference. Streep is fine in it, but for me, the movie spent far too much time on Thatcher's personal life, and not enough time on her political one. The film is set up as a flashback that shows Thatcher in retirement and 'not all there' - personally I thought it could have done without it, work in chronological order, and factor in both sides of her life as it went on.

My favorites have always been the slower, atmospheric kind of sci-fi movies like Blade Runner, Alien, The Thing and Moon, with Blade Runner being my number 1. There's a couple I still have to see though, like Stalker, Solaris and Metropolis (anyone here seen it?).

There was this weird European time-travel film I saw once, was quite mesmerising even if low budget. Have no idea what it was called though.
Timecrimes [http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0480669/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1] maybe? Really liked that one.

A little disappointed no one mentioned Akira. I like to watch it every couple of years, most recently today. It's such a crazy, stylish experience.
Right, good one. I've completely ignored animated movies, but Akira would definitely be up there, together with Paprika, Ghost in the Shell and Wall-E.

Metropolis is totally good! Great production design especially. It occupies a weird spot in popular film history, in that it seems to be the most famous/seen silent film, and it's my opinion that it's far from the best. It meanders a bit, and the smaller scenes don't have as much pull to them as the spectacle-driven stuff. Still definitely worth seeing though.
