This is tough...

"This body holding me
Reminds me of my own mortality
Embrace this moment, remember
We are eternal, all this pain is an illusion"
Tool~Parabola

"Let me die in my footsteps
Before I go down under the ground"
Bob Dylan~Let Me Die In My Footsteps

"And it's hard to say
Who you are these days
But you run on anyway
Don't ya baby
You keep runnin for another place
To find that saving grace."
Tom~Petty~Saving Grace

...just to name a few

There are so many. The first few that come to mind are...

"Language is the heart's lament/A weak attempt to circumvent/The lonliness inherent in the search for permenance"
'Spoils' - Protest the Hero.

Almost any Muse song lyric, but especially 'Butterflies & Hurricanes' and 'New Born' in their entirities.

The whole of 'Under the Bridge' by the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

"Like roses/We blossom/And die"
'It Was Written In Blood' - Bring Me The Horizon.

"Actions could erase all the fear that we suffer/ People segregated no one understands each other/ He's a different color but we're the same kid/ I will treat him like my brother he will treat me like his"
'Avenues & Alleyways' - Rancid.

There are more, but I can't be bothered to put them down.

I know I could spew some kind of internal or avant garde something or other, but I'll rather put out what I'm listening to right now.

This stuff wasn't originally a song but damn, someone made it into a song and, DAMN, it's gnarly...

Warning: I do not presume to have good taste...

The song was originally the text of a "short story" by someone who was either a troll or..well...someone either pretty demented or a comic genius; take your pick:

John Stalvern waited. The lights above him blinked and sparked out of the air.

There were demons in the base. He didn't see them, but had expected them now for years.

His warnings to Cernel Joson were not listenend to and now it was too late. Far too late for now, anyway.

John was a space marine for fourteen years. When he was young he watched the spaceships and he said to dad "I want to be on the ships daddy."

Dad said "No! You will BE KILL BY DEMONS"

There was a time when he believed him. Then as he got oldered he stopped. But now in the space station base of the UAC he knew there were demons.

"This is Joson" the radio crackered. "You must fight the demons!"
So John gotted his palsma rifle and blew up the wall.

"HE GOING TO KILL US" said the demons

"I will shoot at him" said the cyberdemon and he fired the rocket missiles. John plasmaed at him and tried to blew him up. But then the ceiling fell and they were trapped and not able to kill.

"No! I must kill the demons" he shouted

The radio said "No, John. You are the demons"

And then John was a zombie.

Now, I dare you to tell me the song ain't catchy.

It's the first one that springs to mind, and by an artist I keep harping about but nobody knows about him...

"And I've half the heart I used to have,
And half the will to go on.
And I've got half a mind to drink myself blind
Now that my darling is gone."

William Elliott Whitmore, "Pine Box"

It's more the way he sings it, because there's so much pain in that line. Performed live, it breaks my damn heart.

"Your trust is in whiskey and weed and Slayer, its Goddamn Electric."
